Question about HP Pavilion Computers & Internet

2 Answers

Continually reboots It turns on...within a couple of minutes it states 'Your PC has encountered an error and needs to restart'. It is a new computer. It has Windows 8 on it and I still don't know where to find many of the files on this thing. And then it shuts down and starts up again and does this over and over. It started on Saturday. Not too sure what to do to get it to stop this.

No PC stated

w8 is new
its not w8 fault, id do that with W10 too.
what his is , is the silly new boot logic HP now uses.
I hate it, for just the reason.
it should say and halt, OS fails to boot,
do a repair install.
here :
1`: if all your fails are backed up are they.
2: hit F11 recovery and do a fix startup files first.
3 :if that fails a full reload.

do startup repair , if no joy
do system restore, this is total w8 restore. from the HP partitions.
if F11 is dead that usually means the HDD is bad.
or was slammed, (you upgraded the OS with out HP help)?

Force a shut down on your notebook if it is currently on. (Hold power for 8+ seconds.) Turn it back on and tap F11 repeatedly until you see the keyboard language selections. Select your language and then click Troubleshoot > Refresh your PC > Next > Windows 8.1.This will reinstall Windows but will not delete your personal files. It will uninstall any software, and automatically reinstall the software that came with your PC and any apps from Windows Store.

Seems like the preinstalled image is corrupt or there is a hardware problem. Contact Acer for the correct procedure since this is a new system. I could offer alternate methods if you have the Windows install disc, but it is best to contact the manufacturer as soon as possible so it is on record.

Hi! It appears that possibly your hrad drive isn't set properly in the caddy? with the laptop powered down and disconnected locate the hard drive cover pop out the two locating screws and carefully move the caddy/hard drive BEWARE as the drive has fragile pins at the opposite end where you opened, hopefully little sliding pressure should remove. Check the retaining screws around the caddy (You'll need a small torx/philips screw driver for this) if all tight replace gently.
If you are uncertain I would recommend a technician check it for you.
Good Luck!

Sounds like something to do with a power saving feature either from HP itself or from Windows. It could also be that for some reason your computer is overheating, which it than shuts itself off to protect the processor. I would try playing with your power saving features, and cleaning out the fans.

Boot to recovery console using XP CD, run CHKDSK /R and see if that resolves.
If no go, try a reinstall of windows, if still no go, then replace HDD

Please explain what you mean by there's no place for cd? If you're saying you have no CD Drive then that's a good lesson to learn. Never buy a computer that does not have the simple things you need. Netbooks are a waste of money, and you spend more once it breaks.

I have a Dell Dimenstion E521 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, that powered itself off last night, booted up fine the first time. Then it powered itself off again within 5 minutes and just kept powering...

There is a setting in BIOS that determines what to do when when the computer receives power after a power failure. There was a time when this was set as power on; computer would power on automatically computer receives power after a power failure. I think this answers your first question.
In Windows you have a setting to 'Automatically restart' when the computer encounters a hardware/software problem. When unattended, the computer can turn on and turn off by itself repeatedly if there is a problem.
The repeated on-off can lead to more errors. If the problem is with the hard disk, it is likely to get damaged further, where finally you cannot go beyond the BIOS settings. In a Dell machine, F2 should be pressed to enter the BIOS setup.
Do not hesitate if you need further help.

When i try to reboot my dell inspiron 1501 to factory settings after i press F8 and click "repair computer" it just starts normally and goes to my desktop.

Hi,

To restore your Dell computer to it's original factory settings, here's how:

To use PC Restore:
  1. Turn on the computer.

During the boot process, a blue bar with www.dell.com appears at the top of the screen.

  1. Immediately upon seeing the blue bar, press .

If you do not press in time, let the computer finish starting, and then restart the computer again.
notice.gif NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with PC Restore, click Reboot in the following step.

  1. On the next screen that appears, click Restore.

  2. On the next screen, click Confirm.

The restore process takes approximately 6-10 minutes to complete.

  1. When prompted, click Finish to reboot the computer.

note.gif NOTE: Do not manually shut down the computer. Click Finish and let the computer completely reboot.
  1. When prompted, click Yes.

The computer restarts. Because the computer is restored to its original operating state, the screens that appear, such as the End User License Agreement, are the same ones that appeared the first time the computer was turned on.

  1. Click Next.

The System Restore screen appears and the computer restarts.
After the computer restarts, click OK.

Thanks and have a good one.

If it's rebooting when trying to boot into safe mode as well, have you tried "Last Known Good Configuration"? Press F8 like you do to go into Safe Mode, and choose this instead.
If this doesn't work, on the F8 menu, you can disable automatic restart. This will cause Windows to hang instead of automatically rebooting when it encounters an error. With any luck, it will display a STOP error for you. If you get this, comment with the error and I'll be happy to look that up for you.
If this helps, please give a positive rating.

Just spent $440 to fix my computer and it just keeps rebooting all the time, just had service pack 2 installed and brand new hard drive, please help me I'm ready to throw it down the stairs

Your computer is probably encountering an error and Automatically re-booting.
In order to see what the error is, you must disable Automatic Restart. (This step will only help diagnose your problem - not solve it.)
If this is XP - (and you can keep it alive for a minute) - you want to disable Automatic Restart

Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties; then Advanced tab - at the bottom choose Settings for Startup & Recovery.
UN-check the box that says Automatic Restart - then reboot

After that step, your computer will probably give you an error message or Blue Screen instead of re-booting.
THEN yoiu can start Googling for answers or report the error back here.

Reboots itself within minutes

I think that if you can boot up in safe mode you can slow things down enough to do something. If you can get there, you can stop the rebooting by going into "Control Panel", click on "System", click on the "Advanced" tab, click on the "Settings" box and uncheck the "Automatically Restart" box.
Then you can go in to "Add or remove programs". If you remove the AOL program, you'll probably be good!
Please let me know how this works for you.
