Go to start -- run and type in CMD
hit enter to open a black command prompt window

type in "ipconfig" without the quotes and hit enter. This will give you your IP address.

If you need the IP address from your provider that you are using out on the public internet, just go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and it will tell you what your external public IP address is.

First of all, you need to know there are two types of IP addresses.
Public IP address
Private IP address
"Public" means an IP address can be reached from the Internet, while "private" means it can't. For example, in a typical home network, a router has a public IP address on the Internet. The computers, smartphones, game consoles, and other devices behind the router all have unique private IP addresses on the home network. The router acts as an intermediary, forwarding traffic to the local IP addresses that request it. From an outside perspective, all devices on the home network are communicating with the Internet from a single public IP address.
When you're hosting a server on your computer, people on the Internet will need the public IP address of your router to connect to your server. People behind your router - on the same local network as your computer - will need the local IP address from your computer to connect.
Note: If your computer is connected directly to the Internet with no router sitting in between, your computer's IP address is a public IP address.
How to find Your Private IP address:
There are several way to find out your Private IP address.

  • Via CMD

It will list all the network adapters found on your Windows computer and it will show you details about each of them. You'll see your IP address in the IPv4 Address row beneath the name of your connection.

Unable to ping static IP from remote desktop when

Does PING works on the same location where Camera's are located?

Usually, RDP connections uses the same PC on LAN and that should work fine. Please check Camera's configuration; make sure they have valid IP address, SM, Default gateway and DNS servers. Make sure that PC with enabled RDP can PING computers on the LAN either by IP address or Computer name. Make sure they're part of the same WORK GROUP.

Hope this helps! Please provide additional information so I can further assist you.

if u know the IP address of your router and ur servicve provider's server IP then ping it....
go to Start/Run

ping 198.168.1.1 -t (the number is the IP address of ur router...replace the number written by me with ur router number)
ping 59.179.243.70 -t (the number here is the IP address of internet service provider server...replace the number written by me with one for your internet service provider server IP address)

A site that is blocked.

  • go to start>run>CMD>ENTER
  • from the command prompt type in ping yahoo.com
  • instead of yahoo.com though, type in the address that is blocked.
  • then hit ENTER
  • this will ping out to that site and give you an IP address for that site
  • open up your web browser
  • type the ip address of that website in the address bar where you usually type the address
This will allow you to see websites that are blocked by a simple dns proxy. If you have a different setup or different proxy type, let us know

Voyager A210 Laptop shows when connected to wifi "Limited or no connectivity"although others are connected on same router at the time. I have removed wifi program and reinstalled No difference

This is just a try. Find out the Default Gateway on the other computers. If they are using a static IP then you need to get on. At someone else's computer click Start and Run and enter Cmd and click OK.

Now type in ipconfig /all. Look for IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Servers. Write it all down. Then find an available IP address by using the Ping command.

In the same Window, type in ping and the IP Address of the computer you are at. That's just to show you what it looks like when you find an IP already taken. You'll see "reply from..." with the address you just pinged. Now ping again but change the last octal in the IP (the last number) in the IP address to something under 256. And ping again. Do this until you get a message "request timed out". You've just found an available IP.

If it is a network drive. I believe it must have an IP address.

The best way to start troubleshotting is to know the ip address

Then you can ping the Ip address to know if your computer can see the drive.

If the ping time out...then the drive is not on the network.

If the ping reply then it is on the network. so you'll need to look at the share.

Cannot "ping" 192.168.1.1 (default gateway)

1) yes, referring to the router's IP address.

2) I determined the IP addresses of all my computers and tried to "ping" them but could not "ping" any of them. I can "ping" the IP address of the computer I am working from but I don't think that helps in TS this situation.

3) I'm wondering if my router is fully set up correctly. Do each of the computers have to be "saved" in the router's settings?
