When i turn on my xbox it shows up system error and shows e 74 at the bottom. the xbox power button flashes red.

That means your Xbox has an internal error and most likely shows one flashing light when you turn it on. This is common in all Xbox consoles and there is no way to fix this unless you have warranty, You can contact Xbox for a replacement at 1-800-4MY-XBOX or through their website, Xbox.com/support. If you are no longer covered by warranty, you are going to have to buy a replacement console.

1 red light e 74 code

E74 is an error related to video. It's either:
  • Bad video cable
  • Bad graphic chipset issue
Try a different video cable, unplug and plug it back in to make sure the video cable is seated properly. If it's neither of these issues, the only thing to do is to contact Microsoft's customer service and get it replaced/fixed.

This has never happend before while playing online my screen went all different colors and lines i could no longer see the game but was still in it i then turned off the xbox and turned back on within...

If your xbox is still under warranty, call 1-800-4my-xbox to have it serviced. It is a problem realted to the video card inside the xbox. This error is covered by microsoft for three years from the inital purchase date of the xbox. If you are out of warranty you may want to attempt a repair yourself. Instructions can be found on many sites, such as www.buzzle.com/articles/how-to-fix-e74-error-properly.html

My xbox 360 has error 74

The E74 malfunction is a problem believed to be associated with the system's video output cables and/or hardware scaler chip. The problem involves unusual screen patterns, the appearance of an on-screen error message, and finally a flashing red light in the lower right quadrant of the power ring. When a system suffers from the failure the on-screen message reads "E74 System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support."

You could send it in to Microsoft of you can follow the steps as outlined in this You Tube video.
