Question about HP OfficeJet Pro K8600 Printer

1 Answer

Hello. My HP Officejet Pro K8600 reports error "Carriage Stalled". I went through ALL official solutions more then few times! First the carriage was blocked in the right side of machine, couldnt even move it with hands. Than I opened a top right cover (to get to the carriage) and after a few moments playing with it I was able to manualy bush it left. So now the carriage is freely moving, but the "Carriage Stalled" error is still present so the printer is unusable. After I moved the carriage, I went AGAIN THROUGH ALL OFFICIAL STEPS (official steps to troubleshoot "carriage stalled" error). The problem remains. If anybody had the same experience or anyone knows what else could I do, please answer me. I also searched for solutions, and found just one case ( , also I can't find a service manual for this printer. I looked everywhere. (i read that there is NO service manual, but I cant belive it). So please answer me if anybody has suggestion for solving this problem or if anyone knows where can I get a service manual.

If the issue persists, then this is a hardware issue. From my experience Carriage Stalled errors are usually due to a hardware failure.

How to fix carriage jammed to the right

For as I know, most HP carriages are driven by a belt. The detection when the end is near, is measured using a light sensor and a transparent ribbon with small vertical lines on it. When this ribbon get smudgy these errors might occur. Try to clean this ribbon with a dry cloth. When you disconnect the power when the carriage is somewhere in the middle of the printer, you can gently move the carriage to clean the complete ribbon.

If you press and hold resume, will the carriage move over to the left? Hold it until it stops moving.
If that doesn't work, try resetting the printer, by following these instructions. This article may also apply.
Unfortunately, HP does not have any instructions on the support site for resolving a carriage jam for your model, and I am hesitant to instruct you according to another printer, without experience working on that particular machine. If you are still unable to correct the situation after following steps listed above, please contact HP tech support directly, here.
If you want to research the options available online, you home support page is here.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Stalled printer cartridges

Sounds like an issue with the print carriage. When it's out of alignment and tries to print, it can make awful noises. has a web page that describes a number of troubleshooting steps when you have print carriage issues:

Carriage Jam Errors

There's also a related web page having to do with the noise coming from the printer:

Noisy Print Carriage

Hope this helps. Good luck.
