Question about Refrigerators
Ice dam forms in ice maker...then water leaks from top of freezer side and frost forms. I keep shutting down.....works for while then ice dam in ice maker forms once again. what's wrong?
I have had the same problem with ice forming. I found the problem is from the ice maker. The water fill tube delivers water to a plastic piece that acts like a funnel. The water goes through this plastic piece into the ice maker. Ice forms in the plastic funnel piece causing the water to overflow into the ice bin and freezer.

Here is a picture of the Ice Dam in my Kenmore bottom freezer unit. After some troubleshooting, I found the evaporator defrost heater thermostat was bad. Low cost and easy item to replace. It is clipped to the round coil in the upper right side in my picture. I cut the wires and spliced in the replacement. It will take a couple of days to verify the auto defrost cycle is working again. Good luck!
