Question about Lenovo IdeaPad Computers & Internet

1 Answer

When I flip my screen whilst watching a video on my Lenovo Ideapad, two lines come up right on the edge of the screen. Sometimes they run horizontally, sometimes vertically. The video carries on past these two lines and they disappear when I put it back into laptop mode. Hopefully someone can help as it is really annoying!

It's a mechanical problem with the wiring and contacts along the edge of the screen. No "fix" except screen replacement.

Sounds like a problem with the LCD assembly or cable. You may want to reseat the LCD cable at the LCD end. It could be a loose internal connector in the LCD assembly.

Hello yoyoxide.

from my experience can be something related with the video card. I recommend you the followig (Hardware diagnostics):

-Look for one of the discs that came with your computer, it should say (Drivers & utilities).
-Boot from the CD. If you don't know how to do it do the following:
1.Insert the Drivers&Utilities Disk.
2.Restart teh computer.
3. When you get the Dell logo, press F12
4.Select Boot from CD/CDRW-DVD (something like that).
-You will get a prompt to run the diagnosics.
-Just follow the wizard
-I recommend you to run diagnostics for everything.
-You will see if you have any problems with your hardware.

It seems that you have a pretty new laptop, so probably it's under warranty.

First, plug a external monitor and toggle the screen to discard configuration or software problems. If the image displays correctly you have a problem either in the LCD screen or its connection cable.
Open the bezel and check for loose or damaged connection cable. Look specially next to the hinge, ON THE LEFT.
In case the problem is not the cable you might have to get a new LCD. You can have replacement parts and instructions here:

You have a dead column of pixels. The only solution I'm afraid is to replace the LCD screen.

I'm sorry the news isn't good but can you take a moment and rate the solution as fixya even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear? Thanks! :c)

I think it might be that your PC is too clogged up by various programmes and background runs. I would format and install. (How long have you been using it in years, months? How many different programs on it? How much RAM?)

Welcome to Fixya

If issue appears only on safe mode then you need to reisntall the driver of the video card. Install the driver when you logged in to normal mode. here's the link where you can download the driver.

Hi! They are right. Its a video card issue and replacement of the ribbon connector going to the lcd. If you want you can do this by yourself. You just have to buy the necessary parts. This may just require time and patience but will surely save you a lot. Hope this helps and have a good one!
