My Edge 305 will sometimes just stop recording data during a ride. I can restart it by stopping/restarting the timer. but I end up losing data for parts of my ride. Any knows fix for this?

2 possible reasons : either your device memory is full.
If so then erasing all old rides in history should solve it, unless your last ride is too long.
You can also optimize the recording by selecting automatic waypoint recording (optimized) in the record option (see manual).

If all this does not solve, then most probably your memory is corrupted then only hard reset will solve (loosing all user data) :

Hold lode and start key for 10 seconds. Keep holding and pulse press lap/reset button. You'll get a screen asking for confirmation, confirm.

First thing to do is unplug it for 5 minutes then plug it back in and see if the cpu reset.
How about a model #? please. on the door edge or inside edge. sometimes behind the kick plate.

Engine choking during ride

Things to check first:
  1. Fuel filter;
  2. Fuel pressure regulator;
  3. Fuel pump;
  4. Ignition system (including ECU)
  5. Quality of fuel (is it contaminated with water or other contaminants?)

My edge 305 turns off intermittantly during rides and is not mapping the routes I ride completely

This is internal problem due to contacts that are getting dirty or spaced because of too much pressure on the USB port.

Better way is to unmount the device and solder wires in place of gold contacts.

Unmounting device is not easy, see following link

My garmin edge 305 freezes up during the ride on occasion. the distance and elevation numbers just stop changing, while I'm still riding. thanks

OK, There is a battery problem where the contacts become loose within the unit, i opened mine and followed the instructions i got on this site...MTB gurublog If you decide to do so..however if the 305 is in warranty contact garmin.com and ask for new unit... they accept the problem is widespread.

We bought a new garmin 705 and the speed records but not the distance or other features

The Garmin Edge requires that you press the start/stop button to record any data.
1. Before you start riding, press the start/stop button to begin recording.
2. Once you have finished riding, press start/stop button to end recording.
3. Create an account on connect.garmin.com and plug your unit in using the supplied USB cable and download your ride to view details on your cycling session.

Lost History

May not be linked to date of ride. Device has a limited memory, so you have to erase history when long rides, or frequent rides.
When memory is full, device is managing by erasing older data waypoints.

You may also activate intelligent recording of waypoints, that calculates waypoints record when direction or speed changes. This optimizes memory usage.

Date not changing

After my ride I needed to stop the timer and reset the device. Then connect to the computer and download the history. It appears that that information I was downloading was from a previous ride.
