Try pulling out the tray gently. Your tray is clogged with detergent which you have to remove with a tooth brush or something.....minor problem u have.

If you have excess water in the tray, close the water supply valves a little. Front load machines can have issues with improperly regulated water lines (Water pressure may be above reccomended specifications).

I have the same problem and sometimes water stays in the detergent tray as well. I don't have a solution other than to remove the whole tray and drain in the sink after each cycle.

If no holes are in the detergent dispenser which shouldn't be hard to see if any exist then I would assume that you may be adding too much detergent. Also remove the detergent compartment and make sure there is no build up anywhere that may be blocking the flow of the detergent.
