Question about Lenovo ThinkPad Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Device not found when plugged into USB.

I have windows 7 pro on a Lenovo Thinkpad. I also have a Windows Phone 8 (Nokia Lumina 920). I had successfully installed and ran the Windows Phone App for Desktop and it found my phone no problem. However, I had to "reset" my phone due to some messaging problems. After the "reset", when I connect my phone to my laptop it will charge, but it is not showing up ANYWHERE on the computer. I have tried different usb cables and have restarted both phone and computer numerous times. There is not an "unknown" device or yellow exclamation point or anything when I look in Device Manager. There is not a "Portable Devices" under Device Manager nor is there a "Nokia" selection if I go into "Add Legacy Hardware". The Portable Devices is there, but nothing to select that would apply to the phone.Any clues?

Hi! Hope this makes your day feel good:) I understand that the windows phone device is not having trouble until you reset it. Now, the hint here is due to the device compatibility issues as the main cause. If you had happen to backed your device apps, contents, and settings you can simply restore it, but if twas not try to uninstall the application and drivers and reinstall it the way you reinstall at first. If necessary update your windows phone's operating system and make sure your PC operating system is working great also, I mean all USB drivers is installed. Other thing is, please try plugging your device to other USB ports to check if it supports fast USB bus speed (Version 2.0 - 3.0) or the native(windows) usb driver wasn't overridden by the windows mobile phone us driver.

Tried above. The problem here is that when the phone is plugged into the PC, it will start charging. HOWEVER, nothing ever pops up saying the hardware is being installed AND if you go into Device Manager, there is NOTHING within the Device Manager that is this phone. There is absolutely no error messages or icons in the Device Manager, everything appearing in the device manager looks as it should, there is just nothing indicating that this phone is actually plugged into the pc. I have restored the phone to factory settings and rebooted the pc (both done multiple times now).

SOURCE: Laptop s infrared device, serial cable using IrDA Protocol problem

Sound has nothing to do with infrared devices.
The yellow exclamation mark that you see under the device manager is due to drivers of the infrared device not found or is not installed properly.
There might also be a possibility that the device is not getting recognized by the computer due to corrupted drivers so the drivers of the particular needs to be installed again with the CD.

SOURCE: usb device not recognize

You mentioned that you uninstalled the unknown device from the Device manager. If you uninstall it then connected your usb flash drive you will see an error again on your device manager. This means that the driver for your usb port is not properly installed.

To install it, visit dell website, look for the model of your machine and locate the driver, download it then install from your machine.

SOURCE: usb device not recognized, works only when plugged on hub

All PCs provides power supply via USB port. The power is controlled by electronic circuit. Sometimes when overloaded the circuit burns out (the last controlling transistor, actually). This does not prevent the data communication, because it is separated circuit. But if the device is not powered it cannot communicate. When you plug the USB device to powered USB hub, then all go right.
Are you able to use the USB ports with other USB-powered devices like USB sticks, mouses, cameras? If not, the mentioned circuit is burned out. If they work OK, then your internal USB hub provides less power current than needed. In both cases there is nothing to do. The circuit resides on the mainboard of the laptop and replacement is expencive. Use it with that external USB hub you have.

Testimonial: "that makes sense, although sad that i have to get a powered usb hub somewhere, although i wouldn't know which ones are powered or not, i have this hub that has 4 ports that wouldn't work so i assume that one's not powered. tried to look for small hubs but it doesn't say anything about being powered or not, it'll be quite expensive to buy and try as much as i can. can you suggest a small enough powered hub anywhere? thanks again :)"

I am unable to copy music from my eclipse 180 pro TO my lenovo thinkpad edge E420. running windows 7 pro

If the music is on a micro SD card, you can plug the card into a USB adapter for the thinkpad. Otherwise, connect the two devices with a USB cord, look in Explorer for the device and use it as an external HD, locate the music and copy/paste to the preferred location.

ThinkPad Helix 3701 - not booting from USB

You are using a USB what to boot from? Thumb Drive, Hard Drive? If you have a version of Windows 7 in the form of an ISO, it needs to be mounted to the USB device, not just stored on it.

It sounds like you illegally downloaded Windows and have a stored copy of it somewhere. I won't describe how to mount an OS onto a USB device because if that IS the case, then it's illegal. Go buy a copy of Windows 7 and install it... downgrading or not. Or just go and get yourself Windows 8.1, but quit pirating. It's obviously not for everyone.

Upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 ,now storage device not showing.

Have you tried to shut down the computer, unplug the usd external drive, reboot the computer, plug in the USB external HDD the should apply the driver. That said, Have you tried a Thumb Drive or any other USB device in the USB ports? It's a common problem when upgrading a OS that Hardware issues popup. Open the Device Manager, Is your USB controller working? Enabled? Any other devices in error? Unknown devices? Use the Win 7 drivers for your computer found on the computer manufacturer's website. Change the compatibility on the driver for Win 8.

Hi While scanning my phone memory card for viruses most of my photos and videos were qurantined. How can I recover them. warm regards, Anna

use asoftech photo recovery program to scan your usb and then recover your files.

This software scans all storage space on usb and then join pieces together to recover photos. So even virus affected your file table, and put virus to boot sector, the program can still be used to recover your photos.
