Question about Philips 42PFL7422D 42 in. LCD TV

Lose sound on phillips hdtv unless xbox360 is turned on

I have three hdmi ports on my phillips hdtv currently #1 is dishnetwork rcver (phillips hdmi cable) #2 playstation3 (ps3 hdmi cable) #3 xbox 360 (microsoft xbox 360 hdmi cable)

when i turn my tv on (usin port #1 -my dish is pretty much always powered on) i have a color distortion and no sound until i power on the either the ps3 or xbox 360 (no switch between video input is necessary).

same thing goes when either the ps3 or xbox 360 are on and my tv video input is set to the the coorisponding gaming system, i have to leave the game system on while switching back to the dish input... if i turn the game system off before switching the input on tv i will have either a black screen and no sound or the color distortion and no sound. once i have switched over to the dish i can turn off the game system with no problem.

recently i have added netflix to my xbox gold account and i am now experiencing another variation of the problem... sometimes while starting a new video on xbox live i loose sound, the fix for this has been to power off and power on the tv then sound comes back but the xbox shows a message "secured link lost" then "secured link restored"

i have had this setup for nearly two years and neither phillips or xbox has been able to answer why i have these issues... and to be honest this is just getting old and irritating. any suggestions other then using componet cables?

My Toshiba 62hm195 DLP HDTV's HDMI ports have been losing sound intermittently. Both HDMI ports while connected to multiple devices (HDTV cable box, Panasonic Streaming Player) lose sound intermittently...

Your problem is in the streaming player. It is not keeping up and when an HDMI loses connection it will not auto find it again. To verify this take the Panasonic out of the loop and see if this fixes it. I love HDMI but it is touchy

How do I hook up Xbox 360 to the HDTV

Step 1:

Connect the audio/video input of the component cable into the "A/V" port located on the back of the xbox 360

Step 2:

Match the red, blue and green cables on the other end of the component cable to the corresponding component ports on your HDTV. If your HDTV has more than one set of component inputs, make note of which one you use.

Step 3:

Slide the switch on the component cable to "HDTV."

Step 4:

Turn on your HDTV. Set the video mode to the component port that will be used. HDTVs with multiple component ports will usually be labeled "Component 1," "Component 2" and so on

Step 5:

Turn on the Xbox 360. Go to "My Xbox." Select "System Settings" then "Console Settings" then "Display" and then "HDTV Settings." Choose the display setting (720p, 1080i and 1080p) that is best compatible with your HDTV. If you're not sure, try them all until you find the one that looks best.

Step 6:

Disconnect any previously connected A/V or component cables.

Step 7:

Connect the HDMI AV cable connector to the "HDMI AV" port on the Xbox 360.

Step 8:

Connect the other end to an available HDMI port on your HDTV. If your HDTV has more than one HDMI input, make note of which one you use.

Step 9:

Turn on your HDTV. Set the video mode to the HDMI port that will be used. HDTVs with multiple component ports will usually label them "HDMI 1," "HDMI 2" and so on.

Step 10:

Turn on the Xbox 360. Go to "My Xbox." Select "System Settings" then "Console Settings" then "Display" and then "HDTV Settings." Pick the display setting (720p, 1080i and 1080p) that looks best on your HDTV.

HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 no longer work on my TV. What can I do to repair this?

Sounds like you have a bad input board and it is only time before you lose three. If it is under warranty get it in otherwise start tracking down the part. Most of these are a plug and play device once the tv is apart.

I have a picture but no sound sound on HDM2.I have dishnetwork. There is a very minimal amount of sound for about 5 miniutes then it goes away. I can turn TV off and back on again and I have some sound...

Reset the receiver by unplugging it for 10 seconds then plug it back in. Unplug the HDMI cable from the TV and the receiver and plug it back in. If you are still not getting any sound connect another component (VCR, DVD Player, etc.) to the same TV, using same cable, same input, and same channel to see if it works. If it still doesn't work with the other component, replace the cable. If it works then give us a call at 1-800-333-DISH (3474) for some additional troubleshooting. We hope this helps. I have a Phillips HDTV model #42PF7421D/37. When

Try another hdmi wire. Physically look at the hdmi port and see if there is damage done to the port. Change the source. IE another cable box, xbox 360 dvd play etc. If all else fails, change SSB or Scaler. Depending on the set. It'll be one or the other. I don't have my information with me at the moment to distinguish which one you'll have.

MX 3950D Philips - PS3 no sound

Aside from the xbox360 working via the coaxial digital cable. I got the PS3 to work this way.

I had to use the supplied SCART > (Y-video) (Red-Audio) (White-Audio) cable. Basically plugged this in from the PS3 directly to the MX 3950D Aux (Auxiliary) audio input.

On the PS3 audio settings menu, switched from HDMI to the 3rd option SCART.

Turn on the MX 3950D and set to Aux. Bang, got sound again.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I missed this cause I "assumed" the video/audio cable that came with the PS3 was a HDMI to Audio/Video cable, and didn't even see the SCART port in the back of the PS3. So I thought I didn't want to lose 1080p ..etc etc. Anyways. MX 3950D still good =)
