Question about Nintendo Wii Console
Mario Kart begins to load, but when it gets to the screen that tells you to use the strap, the screen goes black for a few seconds, then we get the message "unable to read disc. Check manual for further help" or something to that effect. Have tried cleaning the disc with no luck. Other games are working fine and we had used this disc sucessfully about three months back and it worked fine then.

Clean the game with cd cleaner, if that don't work it sounds like the game is scratched in key spots to not allow you to get any further. May have to buy a new game.

SOURCE: Wii "unable to read disc"
If Wii gives Unreadable disc, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide
