On page 8 of the manual that I will give you the link to: leave the cover in place on the container. Use the cover to help remove the container. Rotate the cover clockwise 180 degrees until the two tabs on the cover meet the two container tabs. Continue to turn the cover, but do not press down as you turn, using your thumb against the tabs until the container is released. Empty the remaining food from the container. http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/mdownloads/c44fa16e-225f-49e2-84e5-348ee18b9c1b.pdf
After an extended period of searching small appliance parts sources I totally understand your question here. Even the user manual does not list a replacement parts source. I was unable to locate any OEM source for the ring collar.
One of the major problems I have seen with food processors is the safety switch, which will not allow the motor to turn on if the bowl and top are not properly seated. The lever and/or switch sometimes wear to the point that they no longer work (easily). I'd do a bit more checking before I discarded the machine.
Use a ball-point pen to depress the button - your finger simply will not do.
This is only to test the motor.
Once it makes the proper sound, you are ready to assemble the workbowl - once properly assembled, the workbowl, lid, and pusher itself will push the button for you. On the DLC-2011, the proper assembly is for the work bowl handle to be locked toward the front of the processor. If you are still having trouble or you have a model other than the DLC-2011, call Cuisinart at 1-800-726-0190 and they will help you with the assembly.
You definetly have to make sure the food cup holder is placed correctly in the bottom, and also have to make sure the top is turned securely until it cant go anymore so it will start spinning when you hit the button.
