Cpu fan runs at high speed all the time

I bought an Asus M3a78-cm to a board that fried on an HP a1600n that i've been working on. Everything work fine except for the annoiance of the CPU fan running on high constantly. I'm using the stock heatsink & cpufan from HP it has a 3hole plug mobo has 4 pins. Is there anyway to disable or reduce speed in the BIOS? the CPU temp is running at 35

I appreciate your help, I thought that might have been the problem, I went to COMPUSA the other day and they didn't have any 4pin heatsinks that would fit in the case. I'll order one from N-Egg or Tgr today. I bought this board to replace an OEM HP1600 Asus A8MZN-LA that fried Everything the board looked fine I stripped it down but it wouldn't boot or post and the fans would run on high no beeps. The xu-15 emc chip looked crispy. Are ther any usual suspects like with the CrapEE-Machines blowing the PS & the Mobo within 2-3 years?

    Thanks again.

The problem is that the mother board you are now using has a 4th wire that sences cpu temp this allow the heat sink fan to change speed to get this to work correctly you will need to replace the fan with a 4 wire style. what is happening is your not getting a temp siginal back to motherboard so the fan controller think it hot and send full power to fan alll the time the stock fan in hp systems is not very good any way .Get a good heat sink and fan to fit your new board ebay has them very cheap 5.00 to 20.00 this will all so increase you system temp and all get the proper cooling when you really need it.

Asus mobos are junk, and should be avoided. If you do decide to send your Asus mobo in for warranty repairs, be sure to take pictures of your mobo before sending it to Asus, because Asus has earned a reputation of physically damaging equipment that is returned under warranty, in order to evade making warranty repairs

I bought asus m3a78-cm board with via on board audio, with vista no problem occurred but with window 7 the problem started. everytime i on my pc, i will install again the audio driver. the problem repeated...

is this windows 7 32-bit OR 64-bit
you will need 64 drivers for all your hardware if you have migrated from a 32 to 64 bit operating system.
Windows7 64 bit still has some major bugs with certain sound cards.
Asus has updated drivers available at thier website, but they dont have them for all hardware, just the most current.
Hope this helps, post again if i can answer any more questions..

Error message shuts computer at start up...CPU fan failed. HP Pavilion M8400 F Phenom X49500 2.2 GHz (computer is new to me)

the trick is that there is more than one spot where you can plug in the CPU fan, had the same issue with an HP myself. try a different spot to plug in the CPU cooler. mine was in the upper right hand of the board and was labeled CFAN. the one i thought was for the CPU (it was same color as the fan connector) was actually a case fan connection.

Suggest Asus mother board

depending on the type of system you might want.
mid class with 4 to 8 gb ram I would choose M3A78-CM. Its a UATX (small platform) but its really stable.

upper class if you plan to use above 8gb ram. I would choose M4N78 PRO. It gives you a more PCI slots over the M3A78-CM and just as stable.

Videocard not working

Try removing the new card, booting into BIOS, change your video setting the slot of your card: I believe your card is PCI-E, save changes and exit. When it starts to reboot, turn the computer off, install the new card and then try rebooting again. You may also have to boot into Safe Mode\Uninstall the original video driver or disable that video component and then try rebooting your system.
