Dell Optiplex GX280 Video Card Install Problem

I have a dell optiplex gx280 (specs @ http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx280/en/ug/sdindex.htm).

I added a ATI Radeon HD2400 Pro 256MB PCI-e Low Profile Video Card, which is "compatible" according to the dell website.

Once i add the card, the computer will not boot. Could it be the power? The power supply only supplies 210 W worth. If so, any recommendations? I read somewhere about dell power supplies being proprietary and you have to buy some sort of converter if you buy a power supply from outside.

You hit that one right on the dot.  ATI website showed the specs for that graphics card you installed as needing a 300 Watt power supply.  Good news though... I researched newegg.com and I believe I found your 300W power supply.  There are 4 different Optiplex gx280 designs with 4 completely different power supplies.  Since you bought the low-profile video card, I believe you have the slim computer case and this power supply should work for you...

I have a dell optiplex gx280 on windows 7 ultimate with 2gb ram. i have a dell fh868 video card but no installation software and it will not find any drivers online, any ideas? thanks

After doing a lot of checking online. I think you should just buy a new video card. That one isn't very good at all and you can't even find vista drivers anywhere on the web let alone windows 7 drivers. Sorry.

How do I replace the video card in my Dell Optiplex GX280 computer?

There are two black button of the sides near the back. Press both in and lift the top upwards. It is hinged at the front and opens like a book. The GX280 has a built-in video card.

Check to see if it has another by checking the PCI slots for a card with the monitor's plug on the rear. (You can check without opening the computer by opening the Device Manager. Make sure View has "show hidden" selected. Under Display, look to see what is listed. More than one, means you have a card installed in addition to the built in card.

Remove the second card or a blank if there is no second card. Insert the new video card. Close the unit and restart. If you have a CD with the video card, install it when prompted.

Good Luck

I have a dell optiplex gx280. when i try to play video from any site, it reboots. changed monitors and same problem.

It is not a Monitor Issue. It seems to be an issue with the Video Card (if any) or the Drviers installed for the Video Card. Try reinstalling the drivers for the Video Card and also flash the BIOS for the same. You cal also change the setting in BIOS inorder to stop restarting the system on any errors.

Increase the amount of shared video dell gx280

Hello!

Don´t lose time for that, I think that you have integrated grafik in own chip, and they have same options with 1 or 64 MB, option in bios, that isn´t a standard shared grafik. Try AGP card if you have a socet for that.

Went from a Dell Dimension 8250 to a Dell Optiplex GX280

Check for updated drivers and install if available. If that does not resolve the issue completely remove the card and any software and drivers and do a clean install with the new drivers
