Sadly- no that does not help.Itisn't that the caption is stuck on, the SAME caption is stuck on... the exact SAME words are frozen on my screen. They remain the same, even when I change channels, when I turn TV off , they appear when I turn it back on. I also unplugged TV for a reset , image comes on, with same words frozen on screen.

I believe this is associated with closed caption settings. This can be found in your setting menu, most likely under video. In there turn off CC.

The next thing I would do is look up how to do what is called a "hard reset" or a "factory reset". You will have to go to the manufacturers website and probably email the techs to get this accoplished. Let me know how that goes. Unplugging is not the same thing as a hard reset.

Okay, have Hitachi 1080 HD. Called several times to Customer Service but they couldnt help. Cannot get the words in English to appear on screen for hard of hearing.

Look in the tv menu for SET UP or AUDIO options.

Look for CAPTION VISION and set to CC1.

Now exit the menu screen.

Now use the INFO or DISPLAY button on the remote to activate the closed captioning.

It should say something like CC1 ON once you get it right.

That should be about it.
Note that not every single channel has closed captioning for every single show and that the words usually take a few seconds to show up on the screen when you change to a new channel.

Good luck, hope this helps. Keep us updated on your progress.

Black Box

You have inadvertently activated one of the closed-caption modes called T1 or Text 1. Find out how to turn the closed-captioning off and on and you'll be able to turn this off.

When changing channels----Big black square appears on screen

turn off the closed captions or select c1 to view the captions. Right now they are set for text and that is what is causing the black box to appear

Get closed captions on some channels, but not all, even though it is CC

RCA have choices for different methods of CC in user CC menu. Labelled T1, T2, etc. . Different selections are for different types of close caption. Tune to a signal (on your other TV) that has closed caption working.

Tune your RCA to the same signal. Change the T1,T2, etc settings until the closed caption for your signal appears.

If this doesn't work, try connecting analog video or VHF channel 3 (or other specified channel) to the TV. check CC. When TV stations, sat channels, sat receivers, cable boxes etc, convert analog video signals to HD, problems can result. Some equipment causes RCA TVs to do unexpected things with sound and closed caption.

If you use RF or video output, old analog video may look better on CH3 or video than on HD input and the CC will work more consistently. Watch HD signals on HD input, Analog signals on Video in or through the TV tuner . Many HD channels and programs are converted analog video and look poor on TV HD inputs.

I'm guessing its the "CC", closed captioning. You have to turn it off, it's either in your menu or you have a button the remote saying either, Text or CC.

Cannot change channels in digital mode

Solution that worked for me:

Beware: Although the process should be safe, it technically voids your warranty.

Enter the service menu:
1 - turn of tv with remote
2 - press and release in the following order on the remote: Info, Menu, Mute. Make sure remote is pointing at the tv
3 - turn on the tv from the remote
4 - you will see the service menu. using the down arrow on the remote select the Reset option. Using the right arrow button at this point will do a hard reset.
5 - Wait a few seconds, turn TV on
6 - you will have to rescan analogue and digital channel but it should be working now.

Can't shut off closed caption

I have the JVC I Art 46" TV. The Close Caption was turn on accidentally by my grandson. After lots of searching for the original remote. I called JVC Customer Support. He told me to change the Close Caption settings to CC2 and T1. That fixed the CC without having the original remote.
