Check your thread tension isn't too tight, try on a piece of similar fabric that you are going to use, try sewing a line of stitches, if the thread snaps, change your tension number, then sew another line with your different tension number, try this until you can stitch without the thread snapping, it could be that your bobbin tension is too tight. Can you check your machine manual, it could even be the needle or the thread that's wrong for your fabric. But I would say, check your tension.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: thread keeps breaking on sewing machine

Probably just the needle. Try turning it 180 degrees

The thread is breaking the whole time, what could possibly be the problem?

Could be several things, ie mis-threading, burr or snag is catching the thread, old/bargain bin thread, needle is not compatible with thread and fabric, tension is incorrect...

The first thing to try (and also the least expensive), install a brand new needle.

Remove the upper thread. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

I HAVE MODEL 12312 AND CANT GET THE BOBBIN TO WORK, THE BOBBIN KEEPS GATHEREING UNDERNEATH MY WORK. ANY SUGGESTTIONS

Please check your fabric results. Is it the bobbin thread that is accumulating under the fabric, or is it really the top thread that is globbing and knotting under the fabric. Usually, thread mishaps under the fabric are the result of an issue with the top thread.

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the upper thread. This releases the tension disks so the thread will seat properly. Use a brand new needle. Start out with the upper thread tension set midway between high & low numbers, although this can be tweaked.

If it is in fact the upper thread, then here are some suggestions:

How do I get rid of bird nests that keep happening when I attemp to sew?

There are some very basic things to do.

Install a brand new needle.

Remove the thread from the machine.

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and then rethread the upper thread. Confirm it is following the correct thread path. (Bird nests occur usually because the thread is not seated completely in the tension disk or the machine is threaded improperly.)

Verify the bobbin is installed in the bobbin case facing the proper direction and that the bobbin case is threaded properly.

Set the upper tension to the midway point (the factory standard), although this may need to be tweaked as machines change over time and use.

Pull the bobbin thread to the top and hold the thread tails. (This works for general sewing, not just quilting.)
How and Why to Bring up the Bobbin Thread

Slowly begin to test sew.

If it continues to create bird nests, then your machine may have a timing issue. Take it for service.

Top thread keeps breaking

Upper thread breaking is usually a sign of incorrect threading or tension too tight, although there are other possible problems:

When threading the upper thread, be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot so the thread will seat properly in the tension disks. Avoid old thread or bargain bin thread. If the thread is fraying and breaking at or near the needle eye, then try a different type of needle with a larger thread groove that will protect the thread from fraying on rough fabric. Also, check that the thread is not hanging up on something, ie the slit on the side of the spool where the thread tail is stored.

Thread keeps bursting, tension is fine

Make sure you are using quality thread. Old, cheap or defective thread. Also, make sure the bobbin contains the same kind of thread.

The needle will not stay threded as soon as i start to sew the thread comes out of the needle

always keep 3 to 6 inch thread tails for the top & bobbin thread & make sure the thread is pulled behind the needle to the back of the machine & that will keep the thread from coming out of the needle

Thread is knoting at the bottom and bursting. The machine is only sewing with elastic thread. When I try sewing with straight stitch or zig zag it will knot at the bottom and burst.

Maybe you need to adjust your tension and double check your threading. I have never (in 50 years) sewed with elastic thread but I think a call to Singer customer service at 1-800-4singer may be in order.

Hello,

Although you already re-theaded and cleaned your machine, re-check this:

- Un-thread your machine and remove your bobbin. Clean any loose thread or lint out of your bobbin case. Re-thread your machine, reinsert and rethread your bobbin.

If that doesn't work, try this:

- Change your bobbin. There could be a nick along the edge of your bobbin spool that’s catching your thread as you sew.

- Raise your feed dogs if your machine has this feature.

Note:
when you start to sew a seam, hold the upper and bobbin thread tails. Hold them back and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting caught in your machine.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem and it was so frustrating! It was happening to me because I wasn't using the right size needle. Go up a couple of needle sizes and see if that helps.
