Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer
I was having a problem with the nf error code during the rinse cycle. After we checked for adequate water flow we replaced the water valve dispenser. Now the nf code did not come on but the washer filled very slowly during the initial rinse cycle and still made a humming sound. It went to the second rinse and the washer seemed to fill normally.I put fabric softener in the dispenser and it did not go into the washer.I am assuming that the softener would be dispensed during the initial rinse fill from the part in the lid that sits above the dispenser.is there a way to remove the lid liner to check for a blockage or does this sound like a different problem? Also,is there a site where I can download the service manual for free?

SOURCE: Fabric Softner won't dispense
fabric softener goes into the dispenser. it may be a full blown solenoid valve -or- a flapper type of solenoid valve. operation of the solenoid operates a flapper to let the softener out. go to an appliance repair site to find the solenoid - appliance parts dot com or repair clinic dot com.

Hi. your problem is actually a rather complicated one.
Timer and selector switches The timer switch is usually the largest dial on the main control panel. It can be either a mechanical device much like a simple clock, or completely electronic with just a digital readout.
The timer runs the washing machine in a pre-determined pattern. It provides the electricity to all of the washing machine components at the correct time and for the correct length of time.
The Start switch is usually part of the timer knob. When you set the timer to the proper cycle, you either pull or push the timer knob to start the cycle.
The selector switches or knobs vary from machine to machine. Most washing machines have one or several switches or knobs on the control panel besides the Timer/Start switch. These let you adjust certain settings; for example, the water temperature, spin speed, timer cycle, and so on. Normally, the washing machine completes the cycle selected on the timer, regardless of how you set these switches and knobs.

Not sure if you've ever resolved this issue, but I'm dealing with it myself. I have come across this service manual that gives a very detailed illustration of the systems, how it works and how to test it.
Focus on pages 15 thru 25. Hope this helps you.

Thanks for using FixYa. Error NF means No Fill. The washer has tried to fill but was unsuccessful. NF indicates No Flow. There is something that is interrupting the inbound flow of water to the washer, either hot or cold. Sometimes this happens when water service in the area is interrupted, creating an air pocket that causing the water valve not to sense water.
