The handle release on windsor s12 won't spring into place

The handle on windsor s12 stays down. It will not spring automatically back so that I can store it?

You likely have one of two problems. Your return spring is broken, or your axle is bent. If your axle is bent, carefully inspect your chassis to be sure that the bent axle has not cracked or otherwise damaged the chassis. The windsor Sensor brush indicator light will come on when:

  • Something stuck in the brushroller
  • Brushroller is worn and needs replacement
  • height is wrong (indicates a problem with height adjustment)
  • a bad circut board/sensor
more than likely your brushroller just needs to be replaced, very common.

Step 1. Remove the vacuum bag housing so that you are only working with the power nozzle or the bottom portion of your Sebo, this will make it much easier to work with. Turn the vacuum upside down, and remove only the 5 screws that I have circled in red:

Step 2. After removing the screws on the bottom of the vacuum cleaner, separate the top housing from the lower agitator housing, sometimes it may take putting a flat head screw driver in between the white and grey colored housing and prying them apart.

Step 3. You now have full access to the belts on your machine. It's most likely the belt that wraps around the brush gear rather then the belt that's attached to the motor that's gone bad. I have never replaced the motor belt in 8 years of servicing Windsor vacuums.

You most likely will need to change the Yoke assembly. There is a sensor built in that gets clogged with fine debris over time. This will take care of the problem.

Why doesn`t the height adjustment wheel on my windsor vacuum go up?


There are (4) main components that affect the height adjustment on your vacuum. They are: Brush roller, Servo Motor, Control board, and Sensor pulley. You have eliminated two of the possibilities already. I would ask you if either of the height adjustment lights on the PC board come on, indicating that the board is attempting to raise or lower the vacuum. I would also have you inspect the Sensor Pulley. That is the yellow pulley that both belts connect to. Do the two sections of the Sensor turn easily without resistance? Do they spring back when released? Are the magnets (small black round magnets on the inside of the Sensor wheels) still in place? That Sensor pulley system tells the PC board whether or not the vacuum needs more or less resistance (to raise or lower the servo motor). Because the Sensor Pulley is completely mechanical (no electrical components); If this Sensor pulley is completely functional, your problem is likely the PC board. I have a Windsor Sensor s12 and power shuts off after 5 min. of vacuuming. I'm wondering if it's overheating of if there is some other sensor that causes it to shut off.


Your Sensor most likely has an internal heat sensor that is shutting off the motor. Some vacuums install an external heat sensor with a reset button that you must push to re-start the vacuum. If your model does not have an external reset button it is most likely a sensor inside the motor. If it is defective the motor must be replaced to solve the problem. But first make sure the overheating is not being caused by a blockage somewhere or the bag is too full. Air must pass completely through a vacuum starting at the floor where it picks up the dirt through all the canisters, filters, bags, etc. and then is exhausted from the vacuum. Any restrictions or blockage can cause the motor to over heat.

Foot controlled handle release lever is broken. Where to get parts?


I had same problem - the foot release pedal would not spring into place when unit was upright (but would work if you nudged in place with your foot). I installed a replacement part, and it didn't fix the problem. I cut out a small sqare of sponge and jammed it behind the flat end of the bent plastic spring on the release pedal, and it now springs back as it shoud. Hope this helps.

No Power to Windsor Sensor XP12


The Windsor Sensor vacs all have a removable handle.

The handle is inserted into a "socket" which has contacts to complete the electrical circuit.

The handle is held in place by a gray plastic lever.

If the lever is not pressed down completely, the handle is able to slide within the socket during regular use.

If the handle slides out far enough, the electrical connection within will be disconnected and the vac will have no power.

Simply lift the lever, pull up to remove the handle, and re-insert the handle fully, then press down firmly on the lever to lock the handle securely in place.

This is the first step to solve your problem and hopefully this is all that need to be done.

Note: I am a big fan of the Windsor Sensor vacs and find them to be easy to work on and a great vac all around!

My windsor s12 vacuum light says the bag is full but it is new?


It sounds like a blockage in the hose or in the yolk.I believe you can remove the hose from the machine to inspect and clear it.Also check the trapdoor on the bottom of the powerhead to be sure it is clear.While you are going through the machine check under the upright filter next to the bag to see if it is clear.Good Luck-Scott
