Why won't my Toro aero turn

First, make sure the steer stick in moving the lever into reverse. Please check this with the engine off

Second, Check the belt tensioner. Sometimes they end up stuck which has been known to cause the belt to slip on the left transaxle only.
Third, buy a new transaxle...

Gear shift lever is loose and mower will not move. this is on a craftsman lt1000.

Trace back the linkage from the shift lever to the transaxle to see if the linkage has come apart. If it is a manual, then I know the linkage connects to the transaxle on the top, forward, left of center. There is a retaining bolt (i think bolt, been a long time) that attaches the linkage to the transaxle. If this has backed out very much the linkage is not going to shift gears on the transaxle.

I hope this helps.

Craftsman riding mower model 917258510 14.5hp OHV 42" 6 speed I cant get it to go out of first gear? Any heip on the way to fix would be appreciated.

Either you have linkage problems between your shift lever and the transaxle or the transaxle has malfunctioned, possibly due to water intrusion and the shifter is rusted inside the unit. Check from the shift lever to the transaxle for any obstruction and/or binding and lubricate where the owners manual states too. No need to lube the nylon bushings any. Post back if you find anything, otherwise you will have to remove, disassemble, inspect and/or repair the transaxle. A new one is very expensive.

Craftsman model 917.271814 will not go forward or reverse. Heard a "click" and mower stopped moving; engine and blade still running.

Check the drive belt that runs back to the transaxle,it sounds like it broke. If the belt is in the pulley check to see if the transaxle pulley is turning when the clutch is out. Also make sure both wheel axle keys are in the rear wheels. If all this checks out the transaxle may have broke, look underneath to see if it is broken there.

Cratsman lt2000 lawn tractor will start but will not move forward or backward. I tried changing the drive belt, but that didn't work.

Is the transaxle pulley turning? If so have you removed the rear wheel recently and possibly lost the square key that fits on the axle?check those two items first. If ok it probably has a broken gear or shift key in transaxle.
