Why doesn't the compressor start in the heat mode

AC works perfect. Heating coil works perfect. However, compressor does not start and join with the heat coil in the heat mode

Is it a heat pump? Is it a heat pump stat? Is ambient temp high enough to allow heat pump to run?

Check and make sure the thermostat is programmed to bring on the heat pump before the emergency heat.

Heat pump. When call for heat is more then two degrees higher than indoor temp strips will kick in but if no outdoor unit there may be a problem with wiring at indoor unit or outdoor unit. If older than one year not under warranty. Look up manufacture an call 800 tech service number

Could also have leak and out on low pressure sensor. Look for signs of oil. Have crescent wrench in hand. Or call install company

open panel on outdoor unui, see if contactor is pulled in in either heat or cool mode. press with insulated instriment on contactor and see if unit starts. if so it is a wiring issue.if it worked before there is a 24v issue either in the air handler, thermostat, outdoor unit. Best guess is the thermostat.

Why does my sanyo model KHS2472 has a red light blinking in heat mode and a green in cooling mode, does not work in either mode makes a gurgling sound when it tries to run?

Hi,
The red light indicates it's either heating or in defrost mode
Check the outdoor unit if the compressor is running - the large pipe on the outdoor unit should be hot on heating or cool to touch on cooling
When in heating mode - the indoor fan will not start until the indoor coil is warm enough
If the reversing valve that changes from heating to cooling is faulty then you may encounter the same symptoms too
Probably need a Refrig Tech to have a look at it?
Good luck

New ct31a, wired per instructions will not work. Putting R+G+W together will start AC, but will not start heat. what am I doing wrong?

Make sure the batteries are in correct and also make sure it is perfectly level. If those are not the problems then you have a faulty unit.

Why doesn't the compressor start in the heat mode

If the compressor is off and the heat coil is on - this is normal for the "E" or emergency heat setting. Check for proper connections between the Heat-pump, furnace(heat source) and the thermostat and that the thermostat is capable of controlling a heat-pump with secondary/emergency heat units. Thermostats designed for this have 4 settings: Cool / off / heat / E(emergency heat). in the "heat" setting, both the Heat-pump and Aux heat work together to maintain temperature. In the "E" setting, only the Aux heat source is used. The "E" setting should only be used in extreme cold - when the Heat-pump can no longer produce heat.

AC draws more current in hot mode

If this is aheat pump or reverse cycle unit that amps in heating is to high. Should not go over nameplate amps in heat or cool. Sounds like maybe two things. Overcharge and stopped up coil on the inside air handler. The reason for the high amps is in heat the head pressure is higher than normal. So check the coil inside and have the charge checked because that compressor wont run long pulling that much amps over nameplate. Keep in touvh Rus.

check the true psi with the line psi to see if same if psi is good in cooling 225 hi and 70 low on 80'day then compressor is fine and i would start checking for temp difference on the reversing valve sometimes this will cause high suction or high discharge psi shift it manually with by energising it be cooling or heating then pull wire and see how it shifts if shifts good then txv on out door unit could be bad what is the psi in heating on the discharge line going to the indoor unit? most prv's are set at about 350 psi r22 as for suction line size its only hot gas in hp mode os no problem their shows in cooling mode as low suction psi ..hope this helps some also make sure indoor coil is clean!....thanks & rate me
