The Shared Key needs to be the same on the access point and on computers trying to connect to it. So if you're setting it on the router, use whatever key you want (there are some requirements, depending on whether you're using WEP, WPA or whatever), then copy the router key so that you can type it in on the computers.

What do I put in the Shared Key box?

typically it is a word (you also can use numbers) minimum 8 characters. Not sure but I think max is 64. This key is used to generate the encryption key. You need to type it in any client what shall connect to the wireless network (mind the correct SSID) or use WPS.

Rather than using WEP which is not completely secure try using WPA-PSK. When selecting WPA, there will be only one password box to open. From there you can enter the password you want to use and save the configuration. If you want to use WEP, when the page with 4 encryption keys opens up, go to the box for the first key and enter the password there. If needed select the shared key option and save the configuration.

Hi my wireless router is not working..i need security key for that..how can i get that key

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa! The security key for the Belkin router is what they also called the Pre-Shared Key, it maybe in the form of word, phrase or series of letters and numbers. The key must be between 8 and 63 characters long and can include spaces and symbols, or 64 Hex (0-F) only. Each client that connects to the network must use the same key (Pre-Shared Key).

1. Click on the green Belkin Router Manager icon (right-click for Windows) to open the menu, or type 192.168.2.1 into a web browser.

2.On the Belkin Router Manager menu, scroll up to Router Settings and highlight.

3.Click to open the Belkin Router Setup page on your Web browser.

4. You must log in with a password to make changes to your Router's settings. If you have not yet set a custom up a password, leave this field blank and click the "Submit" button.

5. Click the Wireless > Security link from the page menu on the left-hand side.

6. On the Wireless > Security page, you can retrieve your password(s) from the fields to the right of the Pre-shared Key (PSK) > entry.

7. Uncheck the Obscure PSK box to view and retrieve your password(s).

8. Re-check the Obscure PSK box to obscure your password(s).

How do i put a password on my connection

Hello,
please write your address box the below link,
http://192.168.1.1
Then, it opens your user interface of the modem.
You can manage your modem now.
Find your Wifi Protected Access (WPA) and Pre Shared Key (PSK)
Choose one of encryption techniques. I use TKIP.
Wireless Protected Access with a Pre-Shared Key: The key is a password, in the form of a word, phrase or series of letters and numbers. The key must be between 8 and 63 characters long and can include spaces and symbols. Each client that connects to the network must use the same key (Pre-Shared Key).
Put a password to your connection settings and save it.
I hope this will be helpful.

192.168.1.1 gateway forgot how to change password and would like to have wireless password protected

The router's default password is admin without username. If you want to enable the wireless security, go to Wireless tab, then Wireless Security sub-tab. On the Security Mode, select WPA-Personal and type in your password on the Shared Key or Passphrase box. Save settings. That should do it. You wireless security key is the one that you type on the Shared key box.
