Question about Crock Pots & Slow Cookers

2 Answers

I have never had a slow cooker in my life and found this one in a garage sale without the manual. How does it work?

Do I just pop in the meat and close? Do I have to add liquid, to the outer recipient or to the inner one with the food?

It is best to sear the meat first as this will hold the meat juices in for a better taste. Pop your green veg in a couple of hours before the end for best results. Potatoes can go in at the start. The perforated tray is for steaming food on so take that out when cooking casseroles etc.

Yes you can use any cheaper cuts of meat or chicken and yes less liquid is used in slow cookers. add hard veges n use green veges for end of cooking time. cook for 6 or 8 hrs on low. Yeilds ecellent results. Find slow cooker books for great meals n desserts. I use mine every week.

Should I add my meat and vegetables at the same time when making a pot roast.

Hello, Queen -

You can. Most recipes I have found for pot roast made in a slow cooker state to add the vegetables right after adding the meat.

These are links to such recipes I have found:

https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/slow-cooker-pot-roast

https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/16346/maries-easy-slow-cooker-pot-roast/

https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/slow-cooker-pot-roast-3361787

By the way, all 3 recipes state one should brown the meat first in a skillet on top of the stove.

Best wishes.

I am having trouble finding a lid for my Crock Pot - slow cooker Model # SCV700SS-033? Could you please help me?

only from the manufacturer parts
as it is a small appliance, the lid if available will be equal to the cost of a new cooker
if you go to hock shops, dumps shops , weekend house garage sales , trash and treasure sales , you may get lucky

I have a Rival Crock Pot slow cooker. I do not have the directions to use the meat probe. What dials do I set?

The Instruction Manuals for Rival Slow Cookers are available on-line:

http://www.crock-pot.ca/CustomerService.aspx?id=man

For some reason it does not seem easy to match up model numbers; however, I believe the manual posted for the SCVP600HSS will provide the information you need for use of the temperature probe:

http://www.crock-pot.ca/Manuals/MANUALS/SCVC600SS-CN_43_41977702.PDF

Refer to pages 9 -11 of the PDF.

Can I brown meat in crockery on stove?

No. It will not brown the meat. Just quick brown your meat and then put in the crock to cook. You will have seriously tender meat and it will be brown.

To add water or not to add water????

Slow cookers do not need water in the base unit to cook the food in the ceramic insert. The ceramic insert gets hot from the base and cooks the food. Here is a good guide to cooking with a slow cooker. enjoy
