Question about Epson WorkForce WF-3640 Wireless Color All-in-One Inkjet Printer
Printer is standalone (not connected to any network or computer). Copying starts; printers creates sounds like trying to unsuccessfully moving something; after some tries ejects paper (empty or with the first lines of copied text); printer displays error code 0x97 and requires power off - on (which does not have any effect on the ill behavior).
First, here's a copy of the manual:
Second, attempt the following which I copied this answer from another post concerning the same error code:
"The problem is waste ink around head sprayer (at (bottom plate of head). Turn of printer. Move head to center. Put wet tissue (with hot water) at head cleaning mechanic pad. Move head to parking position. wait till 10 minutes. check it. You can repeat 3 times." (Post by Anjazmoro Wicaksono)
If that does not work, are you able to open the printer and look for anything that may be blocking proper function?

I bought my Epson WF4630 in the summer of 2016 and Epson replaced it under warranty in the first year due to streaking. I learned to turn it off when not in use, and that made the 2nd one last longer but I got this 0x97 error yesterday.
I called Epson to see what they said and after asking a few questions they volunteered to send me a refurbished printer free of charge, with no requirement to ship the defective unit back.
So... if the same thing happens to you, call, be nice and maybe you'll get one too.

Ok, so I have read a hundred pages of the craziest ideas on how to fix "Error 0x97" and most do nothing and a few actually will render a temp fix. So, here is the real deal in (4) four simple steps, at least this is how I fixed ours at work.
(1) go into your "Control Panel" then click on "Device Manager" click the Drop Down on labeled "Printers"
Make sure your computer is near your printer when you do this.
When you click the "Drop Down" you will likely see (3) three or more printers that all say your Epson Model.
(2) Turn your printer off and one of those will disappear, that is your printer.
(3) Right click each remaining printer and disable
(4) Turn your Printer back on and your printer will reappear on the list and it will now be the only active printer and you will be good to go.
It appears that somewhere along the way, the printer got reinstalled and this is causing interference with the program. files running the printer.

Error Code 0x97 in Epson WF- 4630 means that the efficiency of Printer has decreased. You might notice that the Printer is not printing up to the mark. It may be not printing the pages as it used to print earlier. You don't need to worry anymore. You can follow either of the Solution to resolve the Error.
Step 1: Download "0x97 Fix Patch:
Step 2: Click "Scan" button.
Step 3: Click :Fix" button to repair the Printer.
Step 1: Restart the computer. Login as an administrator user.
Step 2: Click "Start" button> "All Programs"> "Accessories"> "Tools"> "System restore".
Step 3 : Now click "Restore my machine to an earlier date"> "Next".
Step 4: Select most recent system restore date within the "tap a restoration date" Listing and click "Next".
Step 5: Click "Next" on the verification window.
Step 6: Restart your PC is required after the completion of restoration process.
Now, try to work with your printer again.

Error message 0x97. By someone else's suggestion on this website I downloaded & installed the new firmware software from the epson.com website. Worked like a charm. It was easy. Error message is gone and printer is printing beautifully again.
