Question about Kidde i12060 Hardwire w/ Front Load Battery Backup Smoke Alarm

1 Answer

How do I fix a jammed battery compartment in a kidde i12060 smoke detector?

Normally in this smoke detector the battery compartment is pressed inwards to open it. But currently when I press the compartment it only returns to its original closed state. The closed state seems to be further into the smoke detector than normal, I think that some part of the mechanism may be caught on the inside. There is an anti-tamper feature for this smoke detector which can disable opening of the compartment, and I have double checked that isn't the culprit by activating and deactivating it when the feature is active the compartment does not move it all, when it is inactive the compartment will move when pressed but will not open.

You could try to pry the door loose with a small screwdriver. To be safe, make sure the primary 110V power is turned off before trying to loosen the compartment door.
This is an inexpensive unit, less than $10, and is easily replaced if you can't get the door open.
If you do decide to replace it, you may want to look into a combination unit which monitors smoke and carbon monoxide if you don't have a carbon monoxide detector already in your home.

Want to replace battery. Need to know how to open battery compartment. I have a smoke and carbon detector First Alert. Takes a 9 volt battery. Can't figure how to open so I can replace Battery!!

Look around the outside edge of the cover for some small ridges. Push on these in towards the center of the detector. Keep pushing in and down, and the cover should pivot down to access the battery.

Smoke from broiler. Alarm in kitchen went off. All others, 8, went off. Had to remove all batteries. When I attempt to reinstall they go off again.

you aren't to believe this but...with the battery out of the smoke detector.
Press the "Test" button and hold it down for 15 seconds. An alarm will sound briefly, then the alarm will silence.
Put the battery back in the smoke detector. The detector will chirp one time to indicate the battery is connected.
hope this helps!
Happy New Year.
hope the steaks didn't burn :)

How do I replace the battery?

depending on the type of detector. Most have a panel on the back with a flat door, some have a red tab that must be engaged when the new battery is installed, some have a door that opens on the front. If it is a direct wired detector with battery back-up, you need to disconnect the plug on the back to open the battery compartment.

How to open smoke alarm cover

This looks like a detector for a monitored alarm system. If it is, make sure you notify the alarm company before removing. No one wants to see the fire dept when replacing a battery. Turn the unit about 1/8 of a turn counterclockwise to remove it from the base (it will be trickier to reinstall than it is to remove, just so you know). Underneath you will probably find a door covering the battery compartment, which is easily opened. Remove the batteries, then place a temporary short (about 3 seconds) across the empty sockets to reset the low battery detection circuitry before installing the new batteries. There is probably an arrow on the underside of the base with which you align a debossed scribe line on the outer edge of the detector when reassembling. If it sounds too complicated, you might want to call a professional service tech. Hope this helps.

How to open449CSTE - Smoke Detector W/Heat Sensor, Sounder & Status Relay keeps going off from stean

Opening is simple, but I don't know what you expect to accomplish. Just insert a small flatblade in the vertical opening opposite the hinge side and press firmly to release. If the plan is to disable the device by removing the wires you will only create a trouble condition if your smokes have been wired correctly. More info about your intentions might be helpful.

My 521NCSXT smoke sector beeps periodically. What is required to repair?

When a smoke detector beeps periodically it is telling you that it needs a new battery. They require the newest 'alkaline' 9 volt battery that you can get. If it is not alkaline you will get the beeps. once the battery is replaced do a hard reset. (pressing the button for 10 or more seconds)

Alarms go off with humidity.too sensitive.Any

All smoke detectors, whether they are of the photo-electronic or ionization type, can false alarm due to steam. There are basically two solutions to your problem. Either move the detector further away from these areas (I have found keeping a smoke detector at least 6 feet away from the bathroom door normally works) or if that is not practical, after showering try to evacuate steam by either opening a window or turning on the exhaust fan for several minutes before opening the bathroom door.

My kidde smoke and carbon monoxide alarm keeps beeping and saying low battery and i don't have a manual how do i open it so i can change the battery?

You will need to remove the unit from the ceiling to reveal the battery compartment on the back. It should just need to be rotated counter clockwise a small amount and will then come loose from the bracket. When installing a new battey be sure to press the battery reminder finger down into the battery compartment or the battery door will not close.
