Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Freezer cannot seem to go below 50 degrees farenheit. Just purchased yesterday.

Factory settings for freezer and refrigerator were 5 respectively. Installed last night, after several hours made ice, everything fine. Then this am freezer temp alarm. No additional ice, and ice cream and meats were thawing. Checked settings took up to 7, still no change. Put in a thermometer, and freezer will not go below 50 for last several hours.

SOURCE: Refrigerator won't cool. Freezer works fine!

Pierce, there was a service bullitin put out on this model. TDR-0010A-B. Had to do with normal freezer, warm fresh food compartment. Maytag issued a kit that included a new thermostat and damper assy. to solve this problem. Bullitin came out in 2002. If you are not having a defrost issue and all fans are running normal, I would call Maytag and inquire about the above posted bullitin, It may be covered. back.

SOURCE: We have a Whirlpool gb22dk

1st.Check the freezer door gasket for any place it maybe torn or not making a 100% seal when you close the door. That would make temperature drop. 2nd.take off bottom kick plate so you can look under the refrigerator.Using a flashlight make sure there is not alot of lint / dust stuck on the coils .If there is remove it carefully and you will see temperature lower. PLEAS RATE THIS!

SOURCE: refrigerator not cold enough

Hi Tin Man!
You may have identified the problem with the frosted over freezer coils... are they to the point of being ice encased? In addition to cooling the freezer, this is also the primary source for the refriferator cold air... I would try defrosting the unit again, with it disconnected from power, try and go longer this time, with the doors open.
When you power back up, reset both temp settings to mid-range (5) and let it run at least 8-12 hours to stabilize... try to avoid opening the doors too much while it cools down, and see how it does.
If it still doesn't cool down sufficiently, you may have damaged air control port flaps, not allowing the cold air introduction into the fridge compartment.
This could also be a control/sensor issue, i.e.: the setting knob is malfunctioning, or the temp sensor might be bad, as could the electronic controller.... in other words the info source and control system that directs how the flaps are opened and closed might be at fault.
Refrigerators have become much more sophisticated since the advent of the microchip, but the basics still apply... just try and use the process of elimination to isolate the problem.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Sounds as if you have a bad timer or a cold control They can be replaced. Most likely it is the cold control

SOURCE: temp fluctuates in ge profile refrigerator and freezer

Mine is doing the same, but because we were getting frustrated with the interminted noise and motor we kept switching on and off until we realised the frig did not work at all. The key to our problem was, let the frig do its own thing as we realised it was auto defrosting. After 3 days of meddling with this thing, we thought we killed it. Just leaving it on and forgetting about it, it righted itself, and walla it has not missed a beat since. We even blew up another frig in the mean time because of the predicament we thought we were in with all the produce. Good luck and just let the frig do its own thing.

The best method for determining the number to set your freezer to is to start in the middle. If your freezer dial goes from 1-10, set it at 5 and check the temperature inside. The ideal temperature for your freezer should be 0 degrees farenheit.

On my GE GTH21SCXSS, top freezer bottom refer, the freezer and refrigerator settings are on the coldest settings and the freezer won't go below 15 degrees and the refer won't go below 43 degre

Do you see any ice buildup on the back panel of the freezer? You may need to remove the back panel to see if the coils are iced over. Post back your results.

Freezer is set on -2 degrees, actual temp in freezer is -20. What sensor is causing this problem

I suspect that you do not have a problem. . The standard operating temperature of a freezer is around -20 degrees CENTIGRADE (-2 Farenheit)

Your freezer has an option to display degrees C and degrees F, I suspect it is showing farenheit

I have taken a look at a copy of the manual, which can be found at:

But for the life of me, I can't see how to change the display from C to F and back anywhere in the guide. If I am right, swapping the display back to Farenheit will solve the display issue.

If you are unable to change the display, you can try calling Samsung in arlington NJ on 1-800-726-7864.

Hope this helps. Please add a comment to this thread to let me know if the problem is solved or if you need more help
