Scanning function is not working. Computer is connected - it prints to printer but when attempting to scan documents, message says operation is invalid - check computer connection.

It would be useful to know the device you are using. I will assume it is a common multifunction device.

Defragment your hard drive
uninstall your driver
reinstall your device driver from the supplier's web page

USB connection faulty

That model should come with standard network connectivity. If, in fact, the usb port is out then you can connect the unit via ethernet on your LAN and regain your print and scan functions. Keep in mind that network scanning protocols (SMB, FTP, SMTP) require some IT knowledge to set up.

Sounds like a scanner hardware problem. It's not advisable to open the printer and repair it yourself. It would be best to contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for further assistance.

I am attempting to scan a document with my X4650 without success. The copy function works with no problems. I have used the scan function to my computer on numerous previous occassions without problems.

How is your printer connected to your computer, wireless or hardwired with a USB cable? If wireless, check the status of the WiFi light on the printer (green = connected to a network, orange = not connected to a network). Try to turn off/on your printer. Doing this usually fixes minor communication issues. This article in the Lexmark website might also help resolve your scan problem: No Communications Error When Trying to Print or Scan.

I have a Canon MP600 Multifunctional printer / scanner, the printer works fine, but the scanner sends a message, "Can not connect with scanner check cable and / or the scanner is switched on" I...

Hi I found one solution through Google. See if it works.

I had the same problem: suddenly the scanner took ages to calibrate/warm up. Turns out it had to do with the upgrade to Leopard or one of the updates (I'm on 10.5.7).

I downloaded the newest OSX scanner driver from Canon:

Now it scans without delay. Could have saved myself a lot of waiting a lot earlier!

Saving scans:
I always scan from the MP Navigator instead of from the scanner itself, so I can pre-edit the scans and save as .jpg to the folder I want and/or as a .pdf. Works for me....

The HP Officejet 8500 asks me to "select computer" when I attempt to scan.

The reason for this is that your printer can't just scan to itself, as it does not have any memory or hard drive space to store the scanned page(s).

You will find it is much easier/better if you run the scanner from a computer using a program that can process the scanned image, eg: Photoshop, PaintshopPro, etc...

That way the printer knows where to send the scanned data.

I am having problems scanning photos onto my laptop (MacBook). I keep receiving Memory Device was not found when I attempt to scan and save to a memory device. What is the problem?

if you are using a wireless printer you still have to connect the printer to the computer using a usb cord to scan. in otherwords, the scan function is not wireless.
