Question about Sharp EL-1197PIII Calculator

How do I get my Sharp adding machine to print correctly?

Brand new out of the box, machine is not printing correctly. Simple addition i.e., 100+100 displays correctly, but does not print. It will print the first number correctly 100* but not the second number or the answer. Resetting and removing the battery has not helped. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like the printwheels are out of time. Sorta of major repairs. gears on side of printer have to be lined up in proper areas. there are small black arrows on the gears. Best bet is look at a working machine and try to line up. Machine may not be worth the time unless you jsut want to try it. Sharp uses the same printers in many different models.

Depending on the model there is often a switch that you can set the decimal on, often 1-6 places at the top.

To set the date, make sure that you are in Rate Set. type in the date such as August 3, 2010 would be entered as 08.03.2010 then press the date time key. This will set the date. To set the time type in the time such as 4:20 PM would be entered as 16.20 then press the date time key and this will set the time.

Why doesn't the equal button work when I do additions and subtractions?

Your calculator is fine. It is an adding machine first, so it uses adding machine logic and you hit the star button to print the total on the tape. The equals sign is only used when multiplying and dividing.

Adding machine logic is as follows:

5+ total 5
3- total 2
7+ total 9
* print out total

What are the setting for simple addition and subtraction. I also need it to print it for me

The manual mentions an add mode, turning the calculator into an adding machine.

If this is the case, you can do this test and see if it works to confirm that it is acting like an adding machine.

Think of these as integers. The 4 is positive, the 3 is negative, the 5 is positive. When we add all these integers together, we get positive 6.

What can be the solution's, I am typing the letters on the keyboard and it is printing all different characters on the paper -- is there a command set that should be cleared?

First pull out printwheel and see if the "spokes" are even and straight, Second try a new wheel, and third, on this Brothers, when you turn it on the carrier has to go to the left and you will hear the wheel turn and cycle to the correct home spot. Some times there is a arm that comes out of the left side frame that loosens up and throws the time off, check for loose bracket on left side. But a new wheel may solve the problem Good Luck.

Sharp mx-350n will not print in color from the network

Which model is it? The MX-350N is black and white, the MX-3501N is a color model. I'll assume it's the MX-3501N.

Either it's defaulted to print B&W in which case you just go to your printing preferences of the print driver in the printers menu in the control panel, and uncheck the "black and white print" box, or you have account/user codes that you need to enter in your print driver in order for it to print color. I installed the Driver for my Sharp MX-2700G on my new Macbook Pro (OS 10.8). I see the printer but cannot print. Anyone can help please?

usually after installing the correct driver and it finds the printer and ip address and loads in and then a test print is done and nothing comes out then look for the model again and find sharp sap driver that is associated with your model and windows version not forgetting 32bit or 64bit. The driver will look the same but will have sap in the title. once tested and working remove the original printer you installed as it will never work.

When i print it comes out blurry

Could be your print head has gone out of alignment.
This is only a problem if you do bi-directional printing - speeds up printing but even when working correctly does degrade print quality a bit.
Do a print alighment test (see your user manual - available on the Brother website) and follow the instructions on the test sheet it will produce.
If this doesn't help, try disabling bi-directional printing. This will vary according to which operating system you have, but for example in Windows XP:
1. Go to Control Panel 2. Double click "Printers and Faxes" 3. Right click the appropriate icon for your Brother printer 4. Click on "Advanced" tab 5. Click on "Printing Defaults" button 6. Click on the "Settings" button 7. Un-check the "Bi -Directional Printing" box 8. "OK" to close all windows.
If neither helps, this most likely means your print head has been damaged. I'm afraid there is no simple solution to this problem. Repairing these machines isn't straight forward and parts are very difficult to obtain and very, very expensive, so much so that 99 times out of a 100, it isn't cost effective to repair. You could approach a Brother service agent, but it's highly probably that they will charge you more than buying an equivalent brand new machine.

Time to buy another printer. The Print Head will cost you 800-900 plus the labor to install. This printer is a crime that isn't prosecuted. This should be a $100 part and they make it more expensive than a new machine. Don't even try to make Xerox eat it. It will cost you more in sleep. Look to another manufacturer.
