Go visist XDA's forum and look up the rooting guide for your device. HTC is one of the better manufactures that actually allows for easy rooting.

SOURCE: would rooting my tablet effect any previously downloaded or saved file?

Generally speaking, it will not. But it is always recommended that you make a hard backup of all the data and files saved just in case any emergency.

Here is the safest way to unlock an Android device without voiding its manufacture warranty or any supported services.

SOURCE: I have a store demo 8.9 kindle fire hd. How do i get wipe it and/or root so i can use it as a regular tablet

The Demo Kindle Fire Model Number 3HT7G is completely locked down. It is not possible to remove the Demo, reset the Kindle or Flash new Firmware using a Backup and Restore Utility like Kindle Fire First Aide. The Development Team of Kindle Fire First Aide is working on a procedure to reset these Kindles but the procedure will involve opening the Kindle which Voids the Warranty. Until we develop this procedure you are locked out. Sorry, I wish I had better news. Best regards, Chris Bryant - Prokennexusa at XDA Developers

I can't root my tablet

Don't Root any mobile devices. In 80% of cases it ruins the device and you have to buy a new one. There was a guy here yesterday with a rooted Samsung he put another companies firmware on it by mistake and now he can't put his own cellular provider back on it. The phone is a paperweight, an expensive one. Rooting programs are written by kids and they make mistakes. Once you have done it, you can't go back, you have to buy a new phone.
