SOURCE: GE XL1800 Microwave Night Light Inoperative

We see this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

SOURCE: Changing the park and spotlight bulbs on 1996 Impreza WRX

i had the same problem with my 2003 wrx you have 2 choices on how to fix it the first is take the car to a subaru dealer and they can do it for you. Or you can do it yourself like this under the bonnet at the front of the grill you'll see a row of clips first you have to pop them out to remove the grill fully from the car that will give you access to the 3 or 4 bolts holding the light to the car you have to undo these bolts and remove the entie light from the car this will give you fully access to the park light fixture simply twist it so it pops out the headlight and replace the bulb ..... the spot lights are the same remove the grill and the headlight from the car this makes a gap if you look threw and down this gap you will see the back of the spot light fixture simply twist (unclip it depending on the year of the car) it to remove it and replace the bulb once you have done this bolt the headlight back in and clip the grill back into place

SOURCE: Motion Light doesn't work on switch

it sounds like you may have the switch and the motion sensor wired is series , in which case the motion sensor will only function if the switch is in the on position and give you no way to keep the light in a constant on position. if you where to wire the sensor in parallel with the switch the switch would act as a bypass to the sensor , which sounds to me like what you are trying to achieve .

The motion light says it has a manual override. I thought this was to be able to turn the light on so it wont shut off until I turn it off. Is this what the manual override means?

Good afternoon Amanda

There is a 'Dusk to Dawn' mode in these lights in which it will turn on continuously for 6 hours once it senses dusk, and then go back to the automated sensing mode for the rest of the night. This is triggered by turning power on and off twice within three seconds. See the manual here (

If you follow this link, there is a forum with the same question and a walk-through of how to toggle the switch for manual mode.

That should get you off to the races. Good Luck!

Why is the LED light completely off after the walk test and lockout time?

Yes, it works normally. Things have evolved in the technology of security systems and now it is standard to have any LED turned off on any motion detector (the LED's are now used for walk-testing only), the standard DSC and Honeywell wireless motions also do the same thing.

  • This is a normal function for your motion detector. It's also a great power saving function since most of the current draw on the batteries is when it's transmitting a detection signal so if you're home and moving around it will only transmit every few minutes instead of every second, saving on battery life significantly (up to 5 years on average) but after the 3-minute lockout the passive infrared scans continuously until it transmits another motion signal.
Reason: most burglaries are done by someone who has been there before, if they see the LED then they know the motion will catch them moving in that given spot, then they can "map-out" where it's safe to walk (where the LED doesn't light up) for when they plan to return for a robbery.

You can also make this device "more sensitive" by moving the jumper pin position by the right side battery and having the back mounting plate mounted using the bottom screw presets so it faces slightly downward instead of straight forward.

Helpful tip: Change the batteries every 4 years if you're using Alkaline (dead or not) since the detector was engineered "too energy efficient" and the batteries actually leak and corrode the interior PCB at about the 5-year point on about 15% of the detectors with factory original duracell batteries (from what I've experienced in field service).

I have set all the switches to the left TEST, Low sensitivity and Dual brite OFF and this light stays on all night??

putting the switches on test bypasses all the sensors leaving the light on all the time the test selection is only there to see if the light is working

My motion tracking led security spotlight just blinks red

Hello, lack of details, I'm assuming you meant the one red led light above the fake camera lens... I have open, dissected killed and brought back to life my GE. When had the whole thing apart I noticed that the wiring were very thin and were held together with a white glue. When I did put it back together it worked. A day or two later it stopped working, so I opened up again, and inspected every little detail and discovering that the black thin wire that is the negative, had came out of the glue that was sopose to hold the wires in the pcb board. Where it should had been solder in the first place. So I redid the wires one by one and solder them exactly the same way, but before that I tested it to make sure that black wire was in fact the problem, and it was. So I continue to finish and reassemble and it worked great...
I even took out the fake lens and replaced it with a mini camera now I can watch on my big screen when it follows people. Because the wiring through the middle of hollow plastic tubing when you adjust the sensor manually and remember that the led as well turns it bring friction and pulls on the wiring... and that seems to be one of the major issues of the spot light and why they fail... I would open it up and inspect it and take pictures as you go just incase you forget how to put it back together

The LED flashes, but the lights won't come on. Do I need to install a light shield. The sensor is mounted in a well shaded area 10 to 12 feet above ground. There are landscape lights beneath the sensor are...

There are settings on the sensor itself. Should be a dusk to dawn setting that will keep it off during those times and then function at night. as far as not working I would first suggest setting the sensitivity. Disrupting to power could have reset this.

I would like to rewire a solar security light (motion activated) to stay on at dark. Brand westinghouse

The light will only stay on as long as the battery lasts. My guess is that will not last all night. What you can do is buy a light sensor switch (or even a light sensor socket adaptor is available to save you from having to wire it in) to keep a light on during the night. You can use a CFL or even an LED lamp to save electricity, but it is unlikely that a solar-charged cell will power even one of thes all night long.
