Question about Hotpoint Refrigerators
The compressor runs all the time, no breaks. The door seals are ok. The thermostat has been changed about a month ago. The drain in the fridge is unblocked. Any ideas guys n gals?Currently defrosting it.
Most likely the evaporator fan motor, do you hear the fan running in the freezer section?

You have a hotpoint mistral f/f i take it in silver..
Check to see if the fan is running at the bottom on the back of the fridge its next to the compressor behind the panel ...
if the compressor is running and the fan is not then your fault is the fan..
IF the fan is running then its the sensors...
These are located in the freezer section, pull out the draws and remove the panel behind it.... six screws.......... you will c threes plugs at the top ledt hand side.. the yellow one is for the fridge the green one for the freezer.... replace both if your freezer is not working...
Also just below the freezer door there is a panel remove the panel and use a vaccumm to clean the fluff that has built up on the coils..

by the way the sensors are called evap thermistors...

Without seeing this I can't tell you a price or exact fault but the first free thing to try that could likely fix it. unplug the unit from the power and leave both the doors open for 48hrs so the unit is 100% defrosted then try again. cheers.

Hello, Unfortunately the compressor likely is seized now. There are a couple of reasons that the original start device failed, 1) faulty connection. 2) poor quality part. 3) compressor was running non-stop due to other deficiencies in the unit or 4) the compressor was failing to begin with. The compressor may indeed check out ok as far as electrically ( windings ) but the mechanical component ( rotor ) has locked/seized up. You can determine whether it is the windings by checking the ohm value between common to start, common to run and run to start ( c-s, c-r, r-s ) and look for values similar to 6ohms, 3ohms, & 9ohms. Then check the start and run & common windings against the compressor casing to see if windings are shorted. In order to double check the mechanical component you'd need another hard start, ( or a test cord direct to 120vac, but that should only be done by an experienced tech ). nothing else will start it at this point obviously or you wouldn't be using a hard start already. The other unfortunate issue is this, many of these compressor's have a 10yr. parts only warranty but that was voided as soon as the 3in1 hard start was installed. In the end I'm likely not telling you anything you didn't already suspect or know in fact, but it is likely the compressor. I sympathsize, seized compressors **** !
