Question about Staples Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I'm looking for a manual for an spl tmc162a staples shredder

The shredder has been jamming rather frequently until it jammed and stopped. Paper is cleared. I don't have a manual. A red icon is on saying insert bin. The shredder is seated on the collection bin if that is the bin in question. There is no odor of burn failure and everything turns accordingly as I manually turn the motor. Your thoughts?

The bin has not been inserted sufficiently to close the interlock switch.

Thanks Tom. That's what I thought first because I noticed a connection point but could not line it up with anything. I dismissed it as a probable accessory connection. But then, in an enlightening few seconds of time, my answer came. You've totally confirmed it. This was a shredder my wife brought home from her work for me to repair. It was jammed with paper and seemed dead in the water to the office staff. Now the good stuff. When it was brought to me, the bin, in which the office staff "determined" was not a working part of the shredder was left at the office. So I cleared the jam and inspected it for physical breakage. I made sure that the mechanics turned accordingly. Didn't work. Hmmm. So I started to drill down deeper looking into the electronics of the shredder. Then I took a break for the evening. The next day I mentioned there's got to be something missing. Oh, the bin is still at the office. They said "you wouldn't need it". So she brought it home the next day. I'm having a much better day now. Thanks again Tom. I hope I provided you (and others) with a little laughter to lighten up things at the bench.

Well, despite the manufacters warning label I choose to take the shredder apart and found that one of the plastic gears was broken. Hence the motor runs, but the blades do not turn. The thing I didn't understand, the there are metal gears and plasic gears...I can only imagine that the plastic gears at one point or another are going to give. I would suggest not to void the manufacters warrenty, take the shredder back, and get one that is built a little stronger. Hope that helps.

SOURCE: SHREDDER STOPS (RED LIGHT) VERY FREQUENTLY

there are what is called strippers that ride in between the teeth to keep paper from building up. they are plastic and can break after awhile. sounds like you have some of the stripper combs broken.

SOURCE: staples spl-710sh paper shredder stopped shredding

This exact thing has happened to my unit as well. Ive disassembled it to discover that 5-7 teeth on the gear that the motor drives have been stripped off. Unless the gear can be replaced (which is probably not worth the expense), then the unit is toast. Sorry. Good luck.

SOURCE: staples SPL-770M shredder with overheat light even when cool

Just a FYI: I had the same problem. Nothing appeared jammed. But I took the housing cover off and low and behold the rubber roller that turns the shredders had MELTED to the inside. That's why it wouldn't work. This happened while shredding a single DVD - something I had done effortlessly on numerous occasions. You may want to check to see if the roller melted or if some debris has jammed up inside the unit, like mine did often.

Unplug it and look inside the shredding blades, especially around the spot usually near the center, where there is a pressure button. When paper hits it, it starts shredding. Chances are some pieces of paper have jammed just over it stopping paper from hitting it and switching it on. I have had to use long tweezers to work the jammed bits out... Once clear it will work again. Also using shredder oil every 50 sheets through will help it cut easier , and jam less frequently. Do not put too many sheets through together in a bunch. No staples...

You can try cleaning it and maybe limiting shredding to one sheet at a time.

Staples Shredder SPL-TXC22A always has the jam light lit and will not work even though there is nothing jammed. It works if I press and hold the down button twice. It also works continuously if I turn off...

Home office shredders get jammed because the mechanism is not self cleaning. If you remove power and expose the mechanism you may find that, indeed, a shard of paper is triggering the jam sensor. These shredders require periodic removal of the bits of paper from the mechanism, an exercise that can consume hours of picking with tweezers while thinking there must be a better way.

My Staples Shredder, model # SPL-S302D will stop shredding in the middle of a job or immediately after starting to shred. It is a strip-cut style shredder, I use lubricating sheets once in a while on it,...

You can clean the sensor with a alcohol and be sure there is no jam occur. If it doing fine then it's work and there's no more problem. Always clean it, a jam can cause motor to heat up and it's winding will be burnt.
I hope my advice help you.
