Question about NewAir Refrigerators

1 Answer

Newair Icemaker is making ice large at top and decreases down to little shape at bottom? What is the problem, please?

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I mean the ice cube starts out in the freezing process as big on the top and whittles down to almost nothing at the bottom of the cube.

Ice on bottom is older ice. When icemaker goes thru defrost cycle, ice melts and gets smaller. New ice that drops on top is newer and bigger. Your only problem is not using enough ice.

SOURCE: icemaker is not freezing ice, freezer not freezing food,

The ice maker won't work if the freezer is warmer than 17 degrees so that's not an issue till you get the freezer cold again. I would guess that your unit is stuck in the defrost cycle. This could be the defrost timer failing. See if you can find the defrost timer in your unit and advance it by hand if possible. http://www.partselect.com/PartSearchResults.aspx?modelnum=jcd2295hes&mfgmodelnum=&fkmfgid=1&hint=defrost

Be sure that the fill tube is getting into the ice maker and that the ice maker is not blocked with ice.  If everything seems ok, you may have a leaking water valve which causes it to constantly drip water into the ice maker causing the block of ice.

SOURCE: Icemaker leaking causing icicles

Is it overfilling with water? If so, it may be an problem with the fill valve leaking slightly. I say slightly because if it were a large leak, the freezer would have frozen puddles in it. Also check the water chute to be sure the water is all going into the freeze tray. Sometimes they can work loose.

If the seam is leaking, there could be a crack in the housing - not sure that's repairable - sometimes epoxy will work (5 minute, 2 part) but it can be difficult for glue to hold on the type of plastic used in an ise maker housing.

SOURCE: ice maker makes very little ice

my under the counter ice machine makes very little ice. we just paid $600 to have a repairman put a new motor in it (although I don't think that was ever the problem) because it would always run, it was just not making any volume of ice. now it's been fixed and the repairman brought it back under th counter yesterday and it's STILL not making more than maybe 1 cup of ice in over 24 hours. I can hear the water running when Iopen it, but just don't get the bin full of ice like it used to get. HELP!!

Our ice maker is not working. it will make some

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. It sounds like your icemaker is really acting up. Odd shaped cubes, and leaking water.
First thing is to disconnect the plastic water line from the icemaker on the back of the freezer. Then rotate the retangular head about 30 deg and pull out the rubber tube. Wash it but do not scrub it. Then reinstall it and reconnect the plastic tubing.

After that follow this link and perform the steps to check the performance and troubleshoot your icemaker:

Click on above.

That should isolate what is causing the problem.

GE side-by-side: freezer making grinding noise. Husband unplugged and removed icemaker. What was the problem and can I fix it myself?

did it sound like someone snoring in your freezer? that is your icemaker trying to eject cubes, and that noise in and of itself, is nothing to be worried about, that is normal. however, if your icemaker was failing to produce ice, when your husband removed the icemaker, was it near overflowing with ice, or did it look like it just had what would be a normal amount, i.e., the ice in the mold was little more than helfway. if it seemed like it was a normal amount of ice, then the heater on the bottom of the icemaker failed, replace the icemaker. if you had an abundance of ice in the icemaker, you may have a problem with either your water vavle solenoid not closing completely, or the icemaker motor itself is slow, causing the valve to be open too long. without checking it personally, i cant advise either way

I have a Kenmore refrig./ model# 363.9741714

The problem is actually not the ice maker itself. The problem is the electric solenoid valve in the rear bottom of refrigerator. If you follow the water line on the back of the unit down to the bottom and replace the valve that it is connected to then your problem will be solved. Hope this helps. Good luck cj2176.

U-Line clear Icemaker clr2160 cube shape

Hi Joe
That is normal. You will get that dimple because the grid is shaped that way. You can try adjusting the thickness. Hold the up arrow then press the down arrow 3 times, then release the up arrow last. You should see a number 0-5 or 0 to -5. when that happens use the up arrow to 3 then press the light key. This should take it back to ice on the display. Wait 24 hours and check the ice.

WATER AND ICE INSIDE MY FRIG

Most likely whats happening is you have a frozen drain for the defrost cycle. here are step by step instrutions for repair
  • Unplug refrigerator
  • unload food from freezer
  • remove icemaker if present (there are 3 screws remove the one on the bottom and loosen the 2 on top of icemaker then lift it off the 2 screws unplug from wiring harness)
  • remove 2 screws holding rear cover in place
  • move cover to the side or remove from unit altogether
  • defrost any and all ice from bottom of freezer and aluminum drain pan that is now exposed
  • flush drain hole that you will see once ice is cleared with warm water. (sometimes I use a large syringe or turkey baster to forcefully flush hot water thru the drain tube)
  • reassemble in reverse order

These are general instrutions for most top freezer refrigs. but if you need more specific directions dont hesitate to ask Thanks Peyton

11 year old amana bottom freezer icemaker drips water when filling tray

Hello dunc444444
Welcome,
You said, Bottom freezer works fine, but upper refrigerator has no cold air

Is your freezer so full that it is packed to the top especially in the rear?
Refrigerators and freezers share the air from the compressor and travel through vents in the rear of the freezer and fridge.
Sometimes it can effect the cooling in the fridge if the freezer articles block the vents!

The water overfilling in the ice maker is an ice maker problem only.
When we install an ice maker there is a short white plastic tube that we push through the rear
hole of the fridge which supply's the water to the maker, the outside water line attaches to this.
That tube we push through the fridge must go in till it stops. And empties in to a little sistran at the rear of the ice maker. Make sure it did not sip out or backwards a little when you may have moved
rolled the fridge out to clean under it!

Also you need periodically to remove the front grill down in front of the fridge and gently run a refrigerator brush under the coils to clean out the dust that may block air flow over the coils.(the coils are metal black tubes that run back and forth along the bottom of your fridge.
The vacuum will not reach in to that tight space. That's why they make a special brush for this chore.
Let me know how you do?

Drain hole is plugged, I pulled up the plastic cover in the bottom of the freezer [Held in place by 2 screws]. Removed Ice maker [4 screws. 2 Up top and two on bottom]. Unhooked power to ice maker by removing plastic cover. Removed back panel [2 screws. 1 left and 1 right of fan]. Used a combination of boiling water and hair dryer to unclog hole that had iced over. Reassembled.
