Professional 600 575 watts beater shaft is loose

If the beater shaft that you attach the beater to is loose in it's housing, then you will need a new planetary for your mixer, it is a relatively easy fix to make, but you will have to order the part before you can effect a fix.

The 600 model has the center shaft attached to the planetary by means of a heat pressure press in. Which means that when the colored rotating part starts to come loose that you have to replace the whole planetary piecec994bebd-6a21-41c8-821e-a90ec9e3ea14.jpg
the piece that the beater attaches to is called the agitator shaft and it will need to be removed and put on to the new planetary when you install the new one. If the agitator is actually the piece that is loose then you need a gear at the top, a pin underneath of the gear, or a snap ring that holds the shaft together in the planetary housing. Go to the kitchenaid address listed here>> http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/product_literature/search.jsp?siteCd=KAD
when the page opens look on the left side of page and fill in the proper model number (it is on the bottom of your mixer on a white tag), the page will give several choices go to the parts list section and click on that choice for your model number, (you will need the proper part number to order the correct color for your mixer, by following the parts list diagram you will see that there is a very understandable process that you can follow to open up the mixer and replace the planetary, hope that this helps, let us know if you need assistance or if this answered your question

BBeater scraping back bottom of bowl

Is the planetary still off before the taper pin is in place?

It's a shot in the dark but if everything lines up, I can think of two possibilities:

1. The taper pin in backwards, and
2. The shaft hole in the planetary is out of round.

Drive it out with a punch and hammer. It's best to take the planetary off the machine so you can support the shaft. If not it puts a lot of unnecessary stress on the bearings and other parts.

Hobart N-50 Mixer beater attachment spins but has no resistance

Sounds like the shear pin on the planetary shaft has sheared off. Has the mixer been subjected to a heavy load. Remove the planetary and see if the shear pin is intact otherwise you may have to open up the transmission.
