SOURCE: Hooking ethernet to broadband router and cable modem

Hi Sherry,

The cable modem needs to be connected to the router to share Internet. The cable modem goes to the port labelled Internet or sometimes it is also labelled as WAN.

If you need further help, provide details such as the model number of the router and your Internet service provider.

SOURCE: Router will not connect to internet

You will need to assign a different ip address to the modem - Iam assuming that both the router & modem are using the same ipaddress 192.168.1.1? If that is the case, then assign 192.168.1.2 tothe modem.

SOURCE: I have a belkin vision

Can you clarify the problem?

Consdier first that both devices are NAT firewalls and your ISP probably only allows one address. So you would need to put one behind the other. This may not work like you plan. PCs behind the second will not be seen on the LAN by PCs on the first.

The N1 is a very good router. Consider relocting it to a more central location.

Another trick is to locate it near a central wall if it is block. By adding 1 remote antenna and drilling through that wall witha short antenna cable you can get much better coverage on the other side.

It could also be an ethernet problm 1. Power down SMC, plug WAN of SMC to LAN of router and power up SMC. If both devices show link lights and activity the hardware is OK. If not you need a "crossover" cable.

Hope that helps.

The router is saying there is no internet connection from the router to the modem.. Please help cause i have internet from modem to computer..

That means that the communication is cut from router to modem. You need to find out what is the problem.
1. check if the network cable from is still working or properly connected2. try a different ethernet cable or network cable from router to modem3. try some other dsl ports (yellow ports) at the back of your modem for ethernet cable connection to the router.4. switch ends of the cable you are using
these steps should fix the problem for if you are going to analyze, the line break comes between the router and modem and the only means of communication of your router and modem are cable, modem port (for the network cable) and router port (for the network cable) which means that the problem is within that point only. This should fix the issue.

plug the one ethernet cable from the modem into the router wan port . The modem will have an ip address note this and then change the ip address to one higher than the modem for the router's ip address and change the ip address in the router to make the gateway ip address the modem ip address.
Disable the DHCP server in the Router iIf the modem has an active DHCP server in the router.
Plug the rest of your network into the other router ethernet ports.

Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) limit you to *ONE* unique computer connected through the cable-modem (or DSL-modem).
Turn the cable-modem off.
Turn the router off.
Connect the cable-modem to the router, via an Ethernet cable to the 'WAN' port on the router.
Turn the cable-modem on.
Turn the router on.
Connect, via an Ethernet cable, from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to your computer.
Restart your computer.
You should be OK.
If not, telephone your ISP, and get them to trouble-shoot from "their" end towards your end.

Cannot connect to internet using wgr614 router. connection is good without router. with router connected, internet lite blinks.

To use a router with a DSL modem or cable modem, you need to connect the modem to the router at the WAN port and then connect the PC to one of the router ports. If the cable you have been using between the modem and PC is lableled as a cross-over cable, it is the wrong type of cable for the router connection. Use a straight through cable to connect the modem to the router.

If you do not have a manual for the router, here is a link to the router manual online: http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/wireless_router_setupmanual.pdf

The cross-over cable could be the problem (typically yellow cable).

Not recognized by cable modem

Turn everything off for 2 minutes, cable modem, router and pc.

Turn on modem and wait 2 minutes for the modem to sync to TW.
Turn on router after 2 mins and wait until the router syncs with the modem.
Turn on PC
It sounds like your router lost its connection to the cable modem, which happens from time to time. TW will not help with your router. I worked for a cable co and the router and modem losing sync was the at least 70% of the calls. FYI cable doesn't use DSL,just the phone co.

Make sure your modem or router is compatible with XBOX. I think Microsoft has a lost of working modems and routers. If this is all clear, connect the eth.cable to the modem/router. Power up the modem FIRST then the xbox. All this without any cd/dvd in the tray.

Cable internet setup

No, you need to buy a wireless router and connect wireless router to cable modem. Non cable modems do not work on cabled wireless network.
If you buy cable router, buy either a router with no modem integrated or a modem/router for cable network, this last one may be best option, but it needs to be configured. Ask to retailer which models are ok with your broadband provider.
