Question about Kenmore Dryers
I have a Kemore electric dryer, model #88042. It's about nine years old now and the lights on front flicker on and off and a beeping sound keeps on. It was doing this about 11 months ago and stopped all by itself. Some days it will dry a full cylce but now, it comes on for about 15 seconds and stops. Is it the computer module or what?

Based on symptom and details, the control has detected a component failure. Since your model does not have digital display window in order to display a fault code, it will flash the four indicator lights of
Drying, Cool Down, Wrinkle Rid (Press Saver), and Clean Lint Filter will flash the number of times for the first digit of the code and the START indicator light will flash the number of times for the second digit.
Take separate counts of each indicator light, then repeat to confirm in order to be accurate in identifying the proper error code. The code is obtained by counting the number of times the lights flash. Example E24: The four indicator lights would flash twice indicating the 2 and the START indicator light will flash four times indicating the 4. The four indicator lights and the START indicator light
start flashing at the same time. The control will pause for 2 seconds, then repeat the code.
The failure is likely because of a faulty thermistor or because the heater is not working. It could have a broken heating element or a burnt wire connection at the control board. I would begin by accessing the thermistor and disconnecting it. The thermistor can be tested with an Ohm meter. The thermistor should measure approximately 50,000/5K Ohms at room temperature.
The heating element is located behind the drum and it can be disconnected and tested for continuity with an Ohm meter.
NOTE: Disconnect the dryer from the power supply before servicing.

Testimonial: "I don't know if I am understanding what you printed regarding the indicator lights. They are all beeping in unison now. The dryer does heat and sometimes it actually runs for a full cycle . How can you identify and error code if all the lights blink at the same time? I have read before it might be the thermistor. I am as confused as ever but thanks for your post on my problem."

I am not familiar with this particular dryer but most of the Kenmore family use different thermostats for different temperature. They are usually located in the rear and are clustered on the blower housing. Take the two wires off one thermostat at a time and test. It should be closed when cold if not replace it (Usually around $15 each) You probably have a very dangerous clogged exhaust. This will cause thermostats to fail. and can cause a fire. CLEAN It out and dont use flexible plastic duct pipe. The other cause of thermostat failure is if the washer doesn't spin properly and the clothes are too wet when dried. A properly operating dryer will not take much longer than 45 minutes max to dry a load.

I am having this same problem, and it seems quite intermittant. I have finally narrowed it down to an electrical issue, somewhere on the control circuit board (which I have sitting in front of me right now.) I'm going to see if I can buy a new one, and for how much, before calling out the repairman.
