Question about Canon Cameras
Also in any of the advance modes it will no longer take a photo by pressing the shutter once. I have to press it twice.

the mirror is problem of your camera,it alway been close that why the sensor is functioning properly cause that sensor is working in af mode....check the post at the side of the mirror if not broken and the spring of the mirror if not dislocated....doing this you should removed the lens from the body......

SOURCE: I have a Canon Rebel
If the camera does the same without the lens mounted, it's probably a defective release switch. It'll have to be replaced by a repair shop for around $130.

That is how the camera is supposed to function. When the shutter button is depressed it automatically assumes you want the camera to be in shooting mode to take images.
