This is how Nick Liberatore of Loyola University describes it (it worked for me):
  1. Power off the tablet.
  2. Press and hold Power until the device powers on, then immediately press and hold Volume Down (while still pressing Power).
You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
  3. Press Volume Down twice to designate Recovery mode.
  4. Press Power to restart into Recovery mode. You will see an image of an Android robot with a red triangle.
  5. Hold down Power. While holding down Power, press Volume Up.
  6. A menu in little blue type should pop up. Use the volume keys to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press Power to select it.
  7. Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press Power to select it.
  8. When it says all data has been removed then choose to reboot the system.
  9. If you then see the welcome screen you'll know you succeeded!

Acer tab A200

You may have to perform a reset if your tablet fails to respond when buttons are pressed or the screen is tapped. To reset your tablet use a small thin object (such as a paperclip) to press the recessed reset button.

Or do Clean Boot to restore the Acer Iconia Tab A501 factory default settings.
  • Open Settings from the application menu, then tap Privacy > Factory data reset.
  • Click Reset tablet and then Erase everything to format your tablet.
