SOURCE: asus 945 motherboard is in stand by mode

Hi kausik, that green led you see on the motherboard is just letting you know there is power to the board. (This is normal).
You'r CPU fan jerking & stopping is a bad thing & has nothing to do with standby mode. Your CPU fan needs to be replaced.
There are a bunch of Asus 945 boards, just click the link to see.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
If you are able to remove the fan from the heatsink than you may be able to buy a fan from here.

Most people replace both heat sink & fan.

Have more questions, feel free to ask.
Good Luck!

The Asus p5kpl am motherboard will run windows 8. There are no drivers for windows 8 at the Asus site yet, but if you need drivers after the install, you can try the windows 7 drivers.

The manual shows all wrong ways to connect the buttons and LED. Where cn I find a correct diagram

Where did you get your manual? Did you get it from their website? If not, ill give you the instruction how to get the manual of your motherboard. And I am going to use the model of the motherboard posted here that is ASUS P5KPL-AM SE, if this is your motherboard. Go to this site http://support.asus.com/ then click on Download. Look at the General Download category where there are 3 dropdown boxes. On the Select Product choose Motherboard. Next, on the Select Series choose Socket775. Last, on Select Models choose P5KPL-AM SE then click on Search. Select your Operating System, click on Search and your Manual and Drivers will appear then download it. Hope this helps.
