Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

Kenmore elite oasis washer - stuck bolt

Flat agitator type. Bolt holding in basket is frozen. Tried PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, and Freeze-Off. Still stuck. I used vise grips to hold agitator in place while turning bolt. Agitator blade actually bending under pressure. Bolt doe not move. (for what it is worth, 7/16 socket is a bit loose - 11 MM works better). Any suggestions?

SOURCE: washer won't agitate

First, see the Sears parts site for washer model # 110.22952100 which I believe is your model.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.22952100+

Look at the section containing the agitator and you should see how the parts fit.

Also see the following for an illustrated description of replacing the "dogs"

SOURCE: Simpson Encore 605 agitator bolt comes loose - does it need loctite?

The wear is preventing it from tightening correctly, loctite won't be a long term fix, it will still come loose again due to the forces put on the bolt by the vibrations of the agitator. The only way to fix it is to replace the agitator.

SOURCE: The handlebars on my new Huffy Cranbrook rotate downwards if I put pressure on them.

The handle bars should have a knurled surface at the center where it goes in the clamp/stem. Center the knurled section in the clamp and then tight the clamp bolt. If you have stripped/ rounded off the corners off the hex bolt you will have to either use a pair of visegrip pliers or get a new bolt. Never use an adjustable wrench. You are just asking to strip (round off) the bolt head if you do. Use a box end wrench or socket.
Good luck.

Tip

Freeing a siezed bolt

1.File a flat on each side and grip the bolt with a pair of mole grips 2 Give the bolt a sharp tap with a hammer or punch set the punch at 45 degrees pointing outwards and give it a few taps.
3. try soaking the bolt with penatraing fluid see my comments below.

A Workshop magazine actually tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts.
Significant results! They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional machinist,
They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque
required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment.
*Penetrating oil ..... Average load*
None ..................... 516 pounds
WD-40 .................. 238 pounds
PB Blaster ............. 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ..... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ............ 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix....53 pounds
The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone.
Note the "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this one particular test. Our local
machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results. Note also that
"Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price.
Good Luck,
Crofter

Can't loosen lug nuts, broke the Extention & ratchet , tried liquid wrench, impact wrench, then a propane torch to heat lug nuts & a new Extention & cheater bar, still won't budge. Any ideas ?

You're almost at the point of just breaking the studs off. If that happens to me on a bolt, I soak it in PB Blaster, then hit it with torch, then spray it with Freeze Spray right after. Then I use a 1/2" drive ratchet, and a 4' piece of metal pipe. Worst case scenerio is you break it off and need to punch in a new stud. Another reason to use anti-seize on threads. Good luck!

My caliper broke and we are trying to replace it and put on new breaks and rotors but we cant seem to get the bottom screw to come off . it is way past stripped and idk if we will ever be able to get it...

If you mean the bottom bolt which is holding the caliper in place, and its rounded off really bad, first soak it and the area where it threads into with a good penetrating oil (WD-40, Liquid wrench), let it sit for about 2 hours, apply more oil, then clean off the head and tap it with a metal hammer several times to loosed it up. Then clamp on the biggest vise-grip wrench you can find as tight as it will go. Then remove the bolt with the vise grip. This has always worked with me.

Rear brake pad caliper pin is stuck. allen wrench is stripping bolt.

Use small headed maybe even needle nose vise grips if you can get it on tight, then use a pipe wrench or crescent wrench to turn the vise grips. If you have a propane torch heat it first then spray with a rust break free spray ten eat again and try turning. good luck!

Hi Anonymous, it all depends on the size and location. That being said I would take your bike to your local dealer or reputable shop and they will be happy to remove it for a small fee. Good luck

The casing that broke away must be of the cheap "pot metal" variety. That is unfortunate. See if you can soak the area where the head is screwed onto the end of the shaft with penetrating oil like PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench by turning it upside down. If you can, let it soak overnight. A strap wrench would be handy to hold the casing possibly or maybe put a rag around it and hold it with a large tool (pipe wrench) or large vise. If vise grips fit on it, you could try them with a rag on the casing for protection. Post back as we would like to help.

How do I get rusted on transmission lines out of the rad in an '86 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham ?

Use a penatrating oil like pb blaster, and use a line wrench to keep from rounding the threads, and when the nut breaks free from the radiator, just move it a little, cause the line is going to be stuck to the nut, work it back and forth, and spray the pb blaster on it until you are able to turn the nut all the way around.

I need to replace the bar bolt on a stihl 011 at

If the bolt is still viable, you could try using two nuts back to back as a jam nut and wrench it out.
If it is not viable (damaged threads) try vise grips. You MIGHT try a bit of heat from a Bernz torch as last resort, and of course penetrating oil like PB Blaster.
