Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a hoover 750lc washing machine. when it is in wash mode, the agitator is only spinning one way and making a hum noise when it should go the other way. i have removed the agitator and that seems fine. when you move the belt underneath that drives it, it moves the agitator one way but spins freely the other way...any ideas?

SOURCE: Hoover 550 MA Top Loading Washing Machine

I have 550 Hoover about 6 years old, just out of warranty period,
is currently noticed the problem of stopping during prewash rinse, start again it startsup but stopped immediately. And keep repeating it. If i skip to spin manually then it almost completes the cycle. THis problem starts few months back also then vanished by itself and now it starts again.can some guru tell me if its because of belt or drive belt etc.

SOURCE: Washer won't agitate or spin out.

Well it is ethier Belt, Cluch ,motor ,Or transmission. But it does sound like your transmission . The loud clunk is the brake in the gear case ( Trans.). It might have broken off.

Whirlpool heavy duty extra large capacity washer, washes, water drains, won't spin, makes a humming noise (not loud) when trying to spin

Are you sure it’s agitating? If it isn’t agitating or spinning, then motor coupler is most likely broken. If it is actually agitating, but not spinning, clutch may be bad or article of clear thing could be lodged between basket and tub.

Wwont agitate

In the circuit there is a module that works the agitation of the machine . It is an electronic device that moves the motor back and forth producing the agitation and is not connected to any other operation. Have it checked by a washing machine mechanic for failure.

HOOVER 510 PREMIER WASHING MACHINE ABOVE THE BELT SHAFT THERE IS A PLASTIC COG WHEN THE WASHING MACHINE IS ON WASH CYCLE IT SPINS FINE ONE WAY THEN ON THE REVERSE SPIN THER IS THIS ORANGE LEVER THAT MAKES...

I imagine you've bought a new machine by now? The plastic gearcog is the clutch housing. The arm that clicks is part of the brake lever. On these models, the brake lever is supposed to hold the clutch in place during the wash cycle so that it slips in both directions to get a forward and reverse wash. On spin, the lever moves away releasing the clutch and gearbox brake and allowing the bowl and agitator to spin together. The brake lever wears and allows the gearbox to slip during the wash cycle. When this happens, the clutch housing will "ratchet" past the brake lever tongue. this causes the "clicking" noise in 1 direction.
