Question about Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines

Open Question

We have an HB Single Serve Flex Brew unit - about every third cup or so, the k-cups "burst" and spew grounds into the cup and often times onto the cupboard.

I always clean the orange k-cup holder making sure the small hole in the bottom is free of ground. It doesn't seem to matter what brand of k-cup we use - they all do the same thing. Any suggestions?? Unhappy Coffee Drinker!

SOURCE: Can only make a cup of water without single serving in.

I had similar results and figured that the outflow needle, which punctures the bottom of the cup, might be clogged. The outflow needle can be accessed by just opening the top and removing any existing K-cups. I slid a narrow, stiff wire into the needle, and reamed it out a little bit. The coffee maker now seems to work as well as ever.

SOURCE: Keurig machine releasing coffee grounds on top of K cups

I have the same problem but if you take a paper towel and clean the grounds from the top each time it helps. Cleaning around the little point that pierces the cup. It helps but doesn't completely eliminate the problem.

SOURCE: coffee grounds in the cup

since you said usually... I suspect the rubber seal that surrounds the top needle is not seating well...
you can verify this by making a beverage with a k-cup and, just before the water starts, add a little hand pressure to the K-cup arm pushing down a little bit... not hard...
If it consistently makes a good beverage, then we focus our attention to that piece of the brewer...
when the consistency of the water changes, it tells me to look for leaks or unusual percolation of water...

you can verify the K-cup holder is ok... but another way to simulate the hand pressure is to put a shim of some sorts under the lip of the k-cup... like the thickness of a couple sheets of paper under the rim... not the actual k-cup... but the k-cup holder... raising it up a smidge is the same as the slight hand pressure...

I would look to see if the rubber seal has come loose around the top needle....

SOURCE: when I brew a cup of coffee there are coffee

Take your K-cup out and it splits into two pieces. The buttom half has a chamber where coffee grounds that slip out can sit. When it builds up you tend to see allot of grounds in your coffee.

Also check that your top needle seat is there and in good condition.

I have a cup o matic and it has recently started leaking from the main unit...???? Can I fix it?

you can if you can find where the leak is, and as long as it is just a worn o-ring and not a crack. You could contact Cuisinart for service? There are some articles on your particular problem in the main link at the bottom.

I always have coffee grounds in my coffee when I brew a K-cup. Why is that, and how do I make it stop?

The K-cup must be getting pierced on the top, where it lets the coffee grounds out into the cup during the brewing process. This usually means the K-cup isn't seated properly in the basket.

K cup bursts

The filter for the K-cup is not properly seated. It must be slush with the top of the filter piece; if it doesn't slide into the coffeemaker easily, then it is raised above the edge and will break, causing coffee grounds to get into your cup of coffee.

My cuisinart ss-300 compact single serve will not brew

I had the same problem. What worked for me was the paperclip trick. Yes, there is a metal puncture tube in the k-cup, but there is also one on the top of the lid (when you open it up as if you're putting a k-cup in there). I got a flashlight, used the paperclip to clean out all the encrusted grinds, put it thru the cleaning procedure with vinegar as per the manual, and now it works perfectly! Hope this helps.
