SOURCE: Water runing down back side of icemaker and forming icicle.

If it is running down the back of the icmeaker then you need to make sure the inlet tube is properly installed into the fill cup on the icemaker. If the tube is in the right place then your icemaker fill level needs to be adjusted.

Icemaker will not make, cold water works fine, have changed inside filter nd outside filter I added before I knew there was one inside

Refrigerators with both ice and water dispensers have a dual port electric water inlet valve. This inlet valve is the plastic part usually on the back of the refrigerator where the house water supply connects to. This dual valve has 2 electric coils that open to let water in depending on if you want water to a glass or if the icemaker needs to fill with water. Your problem seems to be the half that fills the icemaker may be bad. The valve comes as 1 complete part for both water and ice.

How do i fix ice maker

Could be 2 different problems. Inlet water valve is a dual valve (2 halves). 1 half feeds water to the door dispenser, the other half fills the icemaker. The icemaker half could be bad or blocked up with sediment causing a no fill situation. 2nd problem could be the icemaker itself which sends power to the inlet valve when it needs filled. Usually the inlet valve fails first but you need to test and see.

MSD 27548DR* Water leaks from back when Ice maker is filling with water

I was answering another post and this post appeared after my last post. My sincerest apologies for not seeing it long ago. The symptom your describing is caused by the inlet water valve bypassing water when it supposed to be off. This can be identified by reaching back behind the icemaker and squeezing the rubber fill tube. If it is frozen solid with ice the inlet water valve is bypassing. The inlet water valve assembly is in the back of the unit behind the fiberboard panel in the compressor / condensor coil area. There are 2 electrical connectors and 3 plastic tubes connected to the water valve. When changing the water valve do a one for one tube swap so as not to have the ice maker filling when you select water in door.

The inlet water valve is item 4 of this link:

Icemaker is not making ice

Investigate each of these two areas if your icemaker is not making ice :

Water Inlet Valve
Your icemaker's water inlet valve could be filled with ice. If it is, simply thaw the its water tube with a hair dryer to remove the blockage. Be careful to not melt any plastic parts with the blow dryer.

An icemaker's water inlet valve has a filtering screen to block minerals and other debris from entering into your ice cubes. It is possible that the water inlet valve's screen is blocked, and not allowing any water through to make ice. Clean out any built up debris you find. You should be able to pop the screen out of place with a screwdriver and then put it back in place with the screwdriver again once it is cleaned.

Alternatively, the water inlet valve itself may have become defective. You will have to test it. If the test proves the valve is defective, replace it.

* How to test an icemaker's water inlet valve.

Defrost Thermostat
It could just be that your freezer thermostat is not set low enough. Try adjusting the thermostat to a colder setting.

Or your icemaker might not be making ice because of a defective defrost thermostat. Test your defrost thermostat to determine if it has malfunctioned. If it has, you will need to replace it.

Ice maker is not working and soft ice is forming around the area where the opening of the ice dispenser

Most of the time where they are making ice at the fill tube point the icemaker water valve in the back of the unit is leaking / dripping water past the valve / diaphram seat and it will have to be replaced. You can prove this by turning off the icemaker and then pulling the tube off the back of the unit and placing it into a bucket over night. If your sure the icemaker is off and there is water in the bucket the next morning the water valve is bad.

Now as for that ice in the icemaker fill tube... you can use a hand held hair dryer to defrost it once you change the water valve. I just changed my own water valve on a maytag less than 2 weeks ago that was doing the same thing. (Ice in fill hole and tube) It is working like a champ now.

A GE replacement dual outlet water valve:

(Make sure to use your model number when seeking the correct replacement see "useable on model list" bottom of the page)

Icemaker not working

The ice maker valve is a dual one. with 2 solenoids. One solenoid operates the water and the other the ice maker. So if the water works that don't mean the ice maker supply is ok. The ice maker itself controls the flow of water. So if the water valve is ok then the ice maker is faulty. I have repair photos HERE

Maytag ice maker will not release cubes

Sounds like it has a " seeping " water valve . Only thing to do is replace the water inlet valve . There is a certain amount of water to go into icemaker at fill . A seeping valve will let water continually drip into icemaker , making large cubes which icemaker cannot dump . A larger amount of seeping , will overfill the icemaker , and drip into the freezer and floor .

I have Maytag MTF1954ARA with ice maker which stopped working. Water is available, filter OK, Water inlet valve removed and tested OK. Is there something else to check before I have to remove/replace ice...

Pour about 3/4 cup of water into the icemaker . If it dumps the icecubes but doesn't refill with water , then replace the water inlet valve . If it doesn't dump the cubes , replace the icemaker . Make sure the coils are clean down by the compressor also .

Ice machine not making ice

Hi, everak11,
Three possible solutions for you.
1: No water coming in from inlet valve. Check voltage on inlet if you have voltage and no water then replace valve.
2:Icemaker not cycleing. Lift the arm on the icemaker to shut it off and leave it for about an hour. Come back in and turn the icemake back on by lowering the arm. If the icemaker does not begin a new cycle and the arm start rising then the problem is most likely an icemaker. Replace Icemaker
3:Refrigerator not cold enough. If the freezer is not getting cold enough the icemaker will not cycle. Check the temperature in the freezer and make sure it is getting down to 0 degrees. If not then you may have another problem with your refrigerator. I hope this helps you, Let me know if you have any other questions or symptoms. Mike

Icemaker does not work

Hello Netmindr32,
You will need to replace your inlet valve. The problem is the water is slowly leaking into your icemaker fill line and freezing up. You will have a double inlet valve and the line going to your dispencer may be working fine but the one going to the icemaker is not sealing off. Be sure to defrost all the ice out after replacing the inlet valve. And please allow several cycles of your icemaker before it makes its first batch. It can take 2-3 cycles to fill lines and filters depending on your model. Lots of luck to you and please let me know if this helped you. Mca0824@aol.com
