Now when i push the leaver in to get ice the fridge shut's down like ther is a large power drain. This was doing this before i replaced the coil but the flapper door was not opening then now it opens. It evens shut's the compressor off.

SOURCE: GE side by side refrigerater is not cooling on one side.

sounds like ayou could be having a problem with the defrost system pull the back cover off and you will see a metal bracket about half way up the coils and one at the bottom some models just have the one at the bottom these are defrost heaters check and see if one is burned out if so defroset replace heater and you will be ok if heaters are good check at the top of the coils there is a small round thing cliped onto one of the coil lines with 2 wires coming out of it this is a defrost bimetal or defrost thermostat now for this check the bimetal has to be cold and you need an ohm meter it is a simple test when cold it should read close which with and anolog meter will peg the neddle a digital will read 0.0 -0.2 this means this part is good if the needle does not move or you get no reading it is bad replace it now if the heaters and bimetal are good there is and evaporator thermister also located on the evapoator it is a small white look like a small bulett it could be sending the wrong information to the mother board this part is about 10.00 and the mother board on theif you still have a problem im afraid to say you mother board is bad replace it and you should be good to go with out all the snow it runs about 150 - 200 dollars depending on who you get it from.

SOURCE: The frdge side stopped cooling. the freezer side is fine - help!

Hi, With the information you supplied i'm going to assume there is an ice build up at the rear of the freezer. Your problem is going to be with your defrost system. I will also assume you have the ability to repair this yourself. This is going to be one of three problems with your refridgerator, 1st thing to do is remove shelfs and panel in the back of the freezer...you should see ice build up on the evaporator...don't worry get a hair dryer and melt the ice. Next locate the wires for the heater...using a multi meter test the heater for condinuity...if the heater is bad replace it, If the heater is good replace the defrost thermostat..the stat normally is a barrel looking part clipped onto the evaporator pipe. The last possible problem could be the evaporator fan, have you heard the fan running in the past few hours?..if you are not sure pull the panel out to where you can see fan and watch it over an hour to see if it turns. I have included links with pictures of what the parts you need to check are: https://romulusappliance.com/manufacturers/maytag/refrigerators/575432.JPG defrost stat https://www.hotekalliance.com/UploadFiles/2008627111553382.jpg heaters http://www.applianceblog.com/archives/EvapMotor1018185.jpg evap fan. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again. If you decide to get a repair guy in should not cost you any more then $120 - $200 depending on make/model/problem Good luck & thanks for using fixya! SOURCE: Fridge and Freezer Not getting Cold

Your defrost system is at fault.
With this brand it is most likely the defrost thermostat and defrost heater located behind the back freezer panel.
Remove the shelves and bin, then remove the freezer panel. Defrost the ice manually.
Replace the thermostat and heater assembly.

GE SIDE BY SIDE (GSS25LGM)SERIAL#GD425395 LIGHT IS ON BUT DOESNOT GET COLD HOW TO FIX IT

Hi,

Thanks for contacting Fixya.com

If you have a fridge with a working light, but no cold air, the first thing you should do is check the temperature setting to make sure it is set properly. Next, you will need to clean the refrigerator part known as the condenser coils. These are located on the back of the fridge, and these coils are a refrigerator part that gets very dirty. Cleaning them can restore lost efficiency, but you will need to disconnect the fridge first before cleaning this set of refrigerator parts. You should also insure that there is a three-inch dead space between the refrigerator and the walls near the unit.

Thank You

I see droplets of water in the refrigerator side on the fridge. The fridge also has a little bit of ice forming near the vent.. Its a side-by-side fridge. Any ideas?

i idea is you have a wet frig . caused by wet air .. which is caused by a poor or not a complete defrost. if you have cardboard containers in frig they feel wet not dry and the mosture on the walls shouldn't be there . no frost dryes the air and your's is wet . ck the drain in back of freezer and make sure no ice in back of freezer .. mm

The bdefrost heater behind the wall inside the freezer is bad if the ice you have is on the back wall of the freezer. Remove the back wall and deice the coils and replace heater. wr51x10101

It leaks water from underneath

If the water is coming out from under the fridge and you have a water dispenser or automatic ice maker, then I would suggest that you pull the fridge out from the wall and check the water tubing going to the back of the fridge. The tubing is connected with a compression fitting (a special nut that compresses the tubing to the fridge. There may also be a few more pieces of tubing on/in the back of the fridge with these fittings. Place you fingers on each fitting to see if it is loose or wet. If you find a wet or loose fitting, take some pliers and tighten it (snug it up, but not too tight because you can damage the fitting. Dry up the water. Watch the fridge for a while to make sure the leak is stopped. If you can't get it stopped, or if it gets worse, you can cut off the water (there should be a valve under a cabinet next to the fridge, or under your sink). You can get a replacement fitting at Lowe's2_bing.gif and they can tell you how to install it if necessary. If you have water pooling under your fridge and it goes up to the wall, then you should check on the other side of the wall for water also. This happened to our fridge, but we did not see the water in front of the fridge because it ran to the back of the fridge and under the wall into our carpet on the other side. Wet carpet is how we discovered the problem.

It sounds like you are having a problem with your defrost cycle. If your unit either does not go into defrost, or you have a defective defrost componet, it will cause your evap. to freeze. Hope this helps
