SOURCE: my maytag front loader will not drain water oe comes on the control panel

On the 9700s it's even easier - three screws on the front bottom panel below the door, then use your hand to unscrew the large round handle in the front center. When you can't unscrew any more, pull gently and the filter / catcher will come out.

It's amazing how much stuff mine held - 4 breastfeeding shields, a pencil, a pen, a fake mouse, and lots of grey gunk.

Screw it back in, put the panel back on, and you're in business.

SOURCE: Maytag side by side freezer drain icing

This is a pretty common problem. Sometimes the defrost cycle is not long enough because the freezer setting were too low. But most times this begins slowly until the drain finally closes and then the water has no where to go but the inside of freezer or refrigerator. I have more help topics to prevent a constantly happening over and over again. But you may have a blockage down-line from the freezer. So until you can melt the ice and pour a warm solution of water and clorox in the drain and it end up in the pan below the refrigerator I will hold off on that until I hear back from you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Maytag washer Mod # ymhwe201wy00 flashing SDU & SU. What does this mean please? Would this have anything to do with the door not always opening?

I'm not aware of a SDU error for Maytag washers. However, Sd and SUD are common errors. These indicate excess suds in the washer. The unit will not unlock the door until the rinse cycle removes the detergent unless you hit cancel. (The washer does pause while it waits for the foam to subside.)

The problem can be caused by using too much detergent or a non-HE detergent. It can also be triggered by a constriction in the drain system. Check your drain hose and standpipe for kinks or any clogs. Check the drain pump filter trap and pump area for foreign objects. See http://www.searspartsdirect.com/model-number/mhwe201yw00/3048/0153200.html for images of what how the parts are arranged in the washer. (You need to take off the back panel to reach the drain pump. Make sure to have a bucket handy to catch water coming out of the unit.)

You can run the washer while it is empty to rinse any excess soap out of the unit. (Obviously do not add more detergent for the cycle.)

I hope this helps.

Tip

Checking the Drain Pump on a Front Loader

This advice is for Kenmore Elite, Whirlpool Duet and Maytag Epic model FRONT LOADING washing machines. If you experience a problem where the washer does not drain properly or the drain pump makes excessive noise, here’s the information you need to check the drain pump:

  1. Unplug the washer while servicing inside the unit.
  2. Remove the lower kick panel under the door by removing the three 7mm screws under the bottom edge of the panel. HINT: Use a couple of blocks of wood to prop up the front feet of the washer to gain better access to the screws. Once the screws are removed the panel should drop down, and then pull off. If the panel becomes stuck, a slight tap on either side will dislodge it.
  3. Locate the drain pump. It will be located directly under the wash tub (it is the only pump this washer has).
  4. There is an access removal cover on the pump that can be removed to clean out the trap. BEFORE doing this, it is strongly recommended that you remove all residual water from the wash tub & drain line or you will have about a gallon or so inside your washer and on the floor to clean up.
  5. Here’s a helpful way of quickly removing the residual water. If you own a wet/dry shop vac, remove the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum with the shop vac. This will empty the wash tub, pump and drain lines. If you don’t own a shop vac, grab a bunch of old towels and open the access on the pump slowly so that it comes out at a trickle. Allow the towels to soak up the majority of the water. Close the access and stop the water if you need to get additional towels.
  6. Open the pump access and remove once you have all the water drained. Check the drain pump for foreign objects and debris. Check the pump impeller and make sure there’s nothing caught in it. Items as small as toothpicks or cotton swabs have been known to stop this pump from working.
  7. Clean out the pump thoroughly and reinstall the access cover. Make sure the cover is snug, but do not over tighten.
  8. Place the drain hose back in the standpipe (IMPORTANT – DO NOT FORGET!).
  9. With the bottom panel still off, plug the washer back in and select the following on the operator console – DRAIN SPIN, NO SPIN, and then press any button under OPTIONS 4 times (it must be the same button). “C00” will show on the console display as the washer begins diagnostics mode.
  10. Check the drain pump for leaks as the washer fills. The pump is gravity filled and will hold water even it is not pumping. Allow washer to run through diagnostics until it begins the wash tub tumble cycle.
  11. At this point, you can stop the diagnostics procedure by pressing PAUSE/CANCEL 2 times. The drain pump energizes and the washer will begin to drain.
  12. If the drain pump works normal and there are no leaks detected, reinstall the bottom panel and tighten screws.

NOTE: It is normal to have residual water left inside the wash tub under the wash basket. This is why it is important to leave the door ajar when not in use so this water does not become sour.

Maytag maxima washer won't drain

get to the back of the unit and take out the 2 screws on the back of the lid . remove the lid. look at the front electrical panel -remove the screws holding it in place. look inside the unit on the right and left side -- there may be 2 screws holding the front on - about 7 inches down. there may be two screws also at the bottom of the front panel. If the washer won't drain, should check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't drain properly, if at all. If the washer won't drain water check the drain hose. Be sure the hose did not get kinked behind the washer. Also, remove the hose from the pump and check it for obstructions. If the washer won't drain there might be a clogged pump or hose. It's common for small socks or other small clothing items to get into the water drain system and clog the hose leading to the pump or the pump itself. Remove the hoses from the pump in order to remove the article of clothing. Keep in mind that any water in the washer will pour out of the hoses when removed.
