SOURCE: Janome Memory Craft 8900 QCP. Upper tread jamming in the bobbin area and around. Needle jumps randomly on one side. Was sowing quite thick material with straight stitch and it was fine. Then I decided

Did it break the needle when you changed stitches? Or did it just go straight to jamming.

Janome memory craft 4000, feed dog does not raise when I move the switch

The feed dogs generally do to rise until it begins to stitch. If they still don't rise, then you should probably seek service for the machine.

I have lost my copy of the Instruction Manual for the machine. I have not used the machine for a couple of years and have forgotten how to use several stitches. Can I purchase a duplicate copy.

You can download partial manuals from the Janome site.
I coundn't find one for the Memory craft 4000, but there is one for the memory craft 4400, which should be very similar.

The Janome site also has a forum and an Ask Jan section that might help fill in any gaps the manual doesn't cover!

Hope this helps, Hazel x

What is the purpose and use for feed balancing dial?

The feed balancing dial is for adjusting some decorative stitches that do not form correctly because of the type fabric being used, for instance, the stitch seems too close together to form the design. You would turn the balance towards the plus side. It will also affect the buttonhole sides, if one side seems different in stitch density than the other then you would adjust the balance.
