SOURCE: USB Ports Malfunction

You didn't say which Operating System you are using. Without knowing the OS, Service Pack,or NorthBridge Chip set, this would be hard to fix.

If the System is XP, XP Pro with SP1 or SP2 I would Suggest Upgrading to SP3 release candidate2.

If the usb is failing or hanging then best thing is to update chip set firmware.

Download everest home, open and run, click on the + sign by motherboard, click on chip set, click on northbridge at top of right column and google chipset updates.

Hi,when i insert my usb flash, pc recognize it.not as a flash but somethig like a card reader.when i try to enter, it says: please insert a disk into removable disk x: and i cant format it too.i found

Happened to me once, Try using a different USB port (not via a hub !) OR try searching Google for a device driver for that particular flash disk .

This Flashdisk might be older or newer then the USB port type you put it into (there are currently 3 vesions of USB Ports relating to their speed and bandwidth. They sometimes have different colors)

Please rate this answer if it helped you

Does not respond to my PC anymore

Hi Dan,

Perhaps you should start with reading this Problems with SimpleTech eHow It may not be of much help.

In what way doesn't it 'respond to your computer' ? Presumably you are using an MS Windows O/S, not an Apple ? You don't say. Presumably it is not showing up in Windows File Explorer/File Manager ? Again you don't say. Try using another (different) USB port(socket) on your computer. Try using the disk on another computer to tell you whether it's the disk or your PC.

Assuming it's your PC, and that hasn't worked, enter the DiskManagement utility. You should see your system disk (boot disk) and possibly the external disk as well. Right click on the SimpleDrive disk, and select 'Delete Partition' if appropriate, else go straight to 'new Partition'. I am going to tell you to reformat your disk. You will lose any data that it contains (now is a good time to remind you to ALWAYS keep BACK-UPs of your data). DO NOT REFORMAT YOUR SYSTEM DISK. Select ' New Partition' if you want to proceed with this operation, and follow the instructions, selecting the appropriate letter to assign to the disk. After about 1hr assuming USB 2, it will finish. The disk should now be visible in File Explorer.
You might also try, ensuring you have only this disk connected to your PC on the USB system (I'm assuming that is how you're connecting the disk to your computer, you don't say), entering DeviceManager, and going to USB Devices, expanding that entry. Now double click on the entry which says 'Mass Storage', and click the button which says 'Uninstall Drivers' (you may have to click the drivers tab to see this button). It will ask you if you are sure, click yes. After it has done this, disconnect the drive and reboot your computer. Now plug your drive into your PC by the USB port again; hopefully it say towards the bottom right ;new hardware found', 'installing drivers for your new hardware', and finally 'your new hardware is installed and ready to use'.

The harddrive wont power up witout the power cable attached to an extra usb port but now I keep getting a message saying USB device not recognised and when i go to the device manager it says unknown usb...

You need the power from the 2 USB ports in order for the Drive to have enough Power.
Try moving the USB Ports to another Port or Flip Flop the 2 USB Cables.
Another option is to uninstall the unknown device. Remove the USB Cables, Uninstall Shut Down, Re-Start.
NOTE: Certain Ports on your System are USB 2.0 and some are not. Try to use the 2.0 port listed in the Manual... it will be faster and may carry the Power.

No operating system found

If the error message says "No operating system found" it is most likely a faulty disk controller or a faulty hard disk.
Reseat the hard disk, if this doesn't work you need to test the hard disk another way. Remove the hard disk and connect it to an USB hard disk adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If this computer sees this as an external hard drive and you can open the folders and files then the hard disk is OK and the fault is the disk controller on the the 4115c laptop.
If the hard disk is not detected then the hard disk is faulty. You need to install a new hard disk, install Windows and the laptop's device drivers and programs to get a working laptop again.

All in one printer x1240

With the Lexmark printers communication subsystem you MUST let the driver ask for you to plug in the printer. DO NOT plug the printer into the USB port until told to do so.

To fix a fouled install:
(1) Uninstall the Lexmark drivers in Add Remove Programs
(2) Shutdown the computer
(3) Disconnect the printer from the USB port
(4) Restart the computer
(5) Run the Driver Installation software
(6) Cancel ALL attempts by windows to auto install the printer
(7) When the software asks for the printer connect it and continue

1) if you have nothing in a USB port you will need to set bios
Try removing M/board battery for 2 to 3 hours some people say less then replace it most times it should set BIOS back to default
also check setup of hard disks master slave etc

Last resort with 15 seconds you should be able to see
press ?? key to access BIOS next boot keep pressing key see if that works

Disk Error??

I'm afraid this suggests that your hard drive is damaged and the pc cannot read from the boot.ini file. You can try one thing but its a last hope really, when the pc starts to boot up, keep pressing F8, this will take you to safe mode screen, where you will highlight the line 'Last Known Good Configuration' and press enter and seee if it will reboot into Windows, but if not the below paragraph will apply. You will have to get the drive checked out, by means of an 2.5" ide to usb powered connector, which will connect to another pc's usb port to enable you to perform a disk check and a repair if possible of the bad sectors, or take to a local repairer where they should have the required adapters.
