The oil inside for the reverser is good? You found that the oil level was correct, the fluid was clean and no further actions were needed? Usually the failure is the clutch pack but that is seen in the fluid. Can you feel or notice that the shift lever is moving into the gear selection correctly? Do you notice, feel or hear that reverse gear is engaged when selected. Do you hear any noises or sounds that weren't there before the failure? Did this failure happen out of the blue or have you noticed reverse acting up for a while now? Please let me know. Good luck.

SOURCE: Radiator water in oil of my John Deere 310A

You have either a blown head gasket, cracked block or craacked head. Major work ahead. Hopefully, the water didn't mess up your main bearings.

SOURCE: I have a John Deere

Hi, the most likely cause is the transmission over heating. Remove the battery and the cradle underneath the battery. Here you should be able to access the transmission. Clean all grass and debris from the cooling fins and check the cooling fan for damage. Hope this helps. Regards Phil.

If you can test the alternator after it has run for 2 hours that would be helpful,if it is quiting after it gets hot then it likely need the stator replaced in the alternator. If this is not the case, then you need to either replace the park lock solenod valve or the instrument cluster is overheating a transistor and failing, this will cause the safety interlock circut to engage. Also the operator pressence switch may need to be relocated if the operator is less then 150lbs.Let me know how you make out, thanks.

You have the old style reverser which has been replaced by one that beeps instead of kicking out. These are a known problem with Deere and that is why you can't buy them anymore. The fact that you can hold it in yourself indicates that the enable solenoid and the forward and reverse solenoid are ok and all safety switches are working. You need to replace the reversrer.

that IS a problem, are there ANY noises, clicks, crunches, or slight jerking on the reverser lever? what about reverse mode,, same problem? there are 5 different clutch packs on that drivetrain, so we have to eliminate 1 by 1. ask this... does it loose power when moving, and under load?(main clutch) or when turning(steering clutches) or going from fwd to rev ,, and in each of the gears(trans.)
