Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

My GE Profile side by side refrigerator freezer (model pss26sgpa ss) does not maintain the appropriate temperature, especially in the freezer. Even though I've set the freezer to anywhere from -0 to -4 F. The refrigerator's performance more stable. The doors close fine and the door gaskets seem fine. What could be causing this?

Had same problem. Removed kick panel at bottom and found the wires from the freezer door near the lower hinge are very flimsy. The white wire was broken at the connector and the connector was corroded. Since I have no plans to remove the freezer door, I spliced the wires together with **** connectors and it's working fine.
GE could do better.

All brands of refrigerators is 35-40 degrees F in fresh food compartment. Freezer range is -5 to + 5 degrees F, depending on how hard you like your ice cream.

GE Fridge: PSS26SGPA SS Model

CallMe-

Your "freezer" and "refridgerator" temps are not jumping back to 14 and 44 respectively. When you change temps, they both wait 3-5 seconds before they revert back to a temp reading, not a temp setting.

Does your "freezer" make any loud or thumping noises? If not, do you hear a quiet whisper when both compartment doors are closed?

Solutions could be :
1. Servicing the coolant (might have a small leak)
2. Checking the seal on your freezer compartment (black rubber that meets the metal frame)
3. Your internal cooling fan is not operating and needs replacing (but I think your temps would be significantly higher).

Best of luck.

Greetings bkbkbt,

Many times this behavior is an early indicator that your unit either needs freon or might have a compressor issue. I would advise contacting a repair person before this problem gets worse.

Thank you,

Dorothy
