You fail to mention the details of your problem. But as you own an S2 IS, I'll assume that your camera is showing a dark LCD screen, and is taking similar black picture (very common problem for the S2).

A stuck shutter is a common failure mode for digital cameras, especially the S2. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

The lens assembly needs a repair service.

Either it as internal damaged parts, or a moving part got stuck.

This mean a professional repair service for it.

The cost of it may be $120.00 or more in most camera repair centers.

Best regards,

You may have the ISO too high or you may have changed the "exposure compensation" setting higher than "0".

Black screen for Shooting Canon S3 IS

I have a similar problem with my Canon S3 IS. Dark/black LCD in Shooting mode. However, I can view my existing photos in Display mode. I was about to spend money to get a Panasonic TZ5. Somehow I bumped into a solution post for S2 IS. Here is the link:

I tried their solutions twice and it WORKS. My S3 is working fine now.

Canon powershot camera won't shoot picture

Your problem is probably the same as mine, though my camera is a PowerShot S1 IS. That is very much the same symptom mine had, and doing some research online, I found out that some Canon cameras (there is a listing) came out with a defect in their CCD (main digital sensor), which presents this failure after some months of use. Canon will fix the problem free of charge, if you take it to a Canon Service Center.
Hope this helps.

How do i make my canon wl-dc100 (remote control) work for my powershot s2 is?

The S2 IS is not equipped for shooting with the remote control like the S1 IS was. Your only options are to use the self timer feature, or you can use the remote shooting option if the camera is connected to a computer.

Powershot S1 IS trouble shooting in images of lcd monitor

Try playing back pictures you know were captured properly ( either with another properly working camera or with your camera before the problem with quality has appeared ). If the image is ok in playback but 'noisy' in capture mode then the CCD sensor is faulty /on its way out. Ask Canon if they repair CCD faults on this model free of charge.
