Question about Sony DVP-CX860 Multi-disc DVD Player

2 Answers

Sony DVP-CX860 can't read discs. It loads a disc, can't read it, then it flips to read the other side. Of course, that doesn't work, so it moves to the next DVD. The cycle begins again. I took the top off and blew out around the head. Tried to use a head cleaner but since it can't read the discs that doesn't help. It was in a cabinet, so could it have overheated? Maybe a spike or static?

I am having this exact same problem.

It started when a disc failed to eject, so I had to shut the machine off and back on. It finally kicked the movie out into another slot.

(Anyone who owns this machine is familiar with it's desire to eject EZ Play discs into the first available slot somewhere else in the carousel.)

Now it attempts to play both sides of any given disc to no avail. I noticed that it sounds like it is failing to spin the disc, so I'm assuming there is either another disc stuck in there, or, more likely, the clamp that spins the cd got misaligned or loosened when it kicked out the jammed DVD.

I'm still searching for solutions, but if jtarheel2 or any other users find one or have any other observations about their similar problem, please share it with us!

Sony DVP-cx860 Disks won't feed from the carousel into the reader.

The thickness of DVDs and CDs often vary and the surfaces are too slick. Roughening the outer edge(s) of one or both side(s) of the disk was an immediate fix for the loading problem.

My DVP-CX860 has never opened, only the ON button turns on and nothing else happens, since i bought it. Anybody can help?

Is there a transit screw in the bottom? It (they) need removing.

If you hear a little motor straining to open the tray when the open button is pressed, there is something jamming it. In a new machine, there are usually transit screws.

Read the manual, looking for unpacking instructions.

All of the sudden our Sony DVP-sr200p dvd player is not loading our dvd's, it is stating "cannot read disk". Any solutions?

use soft cloth to clean the disc.
Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback
Attempt to play another disc.
If another disc plays in the DVD player, then the previous disc is faulty.
If still the same. try to unplug for 3 hours. if the same. check sony.com/repair for service option

My Sony DVP CX860 DVD/CD player is jammed

You can unscrew the top panel. (Two screws on either side, three along the top in the back.) That will allow you access into the unit.

Inside the unit the lense and spindle are encased inside a shell in the center. If there is a disc jammed in there it will require some effort to get it out without damaging your machine. Be sure that it is unplugged to avoid a shock and I would simply attempt to fish it out through the front or back slot.

There's also the possibility that if you unplug it and replug it, the machine will eject the disc if you loosen it up or get it back on track.

Cant play All DVD - Band of Brother Has 2 Part on A Single DVD Part 1 Part 2

There is a button labeled FLIP on your remote control. It is on the far right column, and it is the fifth button from the top. It is also the first black button on the remote.

There is also a FLIP button on the front of the unit in the top right corner. It is white. When you push it, it lights up orange.

If the unit attempts to read on side of the disc and fails, it will rotate the carousel 180 degrees and automatically attempt the read the other side of the disk.

Sony DVP CX860 300 disc just keeps rotating the carousel

I just got one of these and i notice mine does the same thing. WHat i found that helped mine is tip the unit back a little. The loader uses a little but of gravity to get the disks to roll back into the loader. If its level the wheel sometimes cant spin the disk up into the loader fully. If its tipping back a little the disk will roll back easy into the loader and load it properly.

Also, dont forget if your playing a disk and you want to stop the unit, DONT POWER IT OFF AT THE UNIT. Power the unit off by the remote power this way it will finish its cycle and put the disk back into the proper slot.
